SHOPIAN: In continuation of its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Police in Shopian have taken cognizance against three tractors and JCB, involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals in the Berthipora and Saidpora areas.

During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Post Saidpora intercepted a tractor found extracting and transporting minerals without valid royalty documents. Accordingly, FIR No. 61/2025 has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant provisions of law.

Similarly, a police team from Police Post Berthipora intercepted one JCB and two tractors engaged in illegal mineral extraction within its jurisdiction. The vehicles were immediately challaned under the MMRD Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the drivers and owners involved.

J&K Police reiterate its firm commitment to curb illegal mining and protect natural resources. The general public is urged to report any such activities to the nearest police unit. The drive against illegal extraction will continue in the coming days to ensure transparency, environmental protection, and strict enforcement of the law.
