SHOPIAN: To curb illegal mining activities, Police in Shopian have seized two JCBs involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from the Keegam and Zainapora areas.
One JCB found extracting minerals illegally without valid royalty documents were seized by Police party of Police Post Keegam during routine patrolling. Consequently, FIR No. 232/2025 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been taken up.
Similarly, Police party from Police Station Zainapora during routine patrolling seized another JCB engaged in illegal extraction of minerals from Rambiara Nallah near Aglar. In this connection, FIR No. 102/2025 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation is underway.
J&K Police reaffirm their commitment to protecting the district’s natural resources and maintaining strict action against violators. The general public is urged to cooperate with police by reporting any incidents of illegal mining.
