- DC asks for installation of ETPs at all over-10 bedded hospitals
POONCH: In a significant move to enhance public health and environmental safety, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal has asked stakeholder departments to take measures to strengthen the infrastructural base for effective Bio- Medical Waste (BMW) Management in the district. Chairing a meeting here today, the DC emphasized the critical need for effective Bio-Medical Waste Management to mitigate health risks associated with improper waste disposal.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was asked to coordinate with the J&K Pollution Control Committee to secure necessary authorization for the installation of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in hospitals with more than ten bed accommodation, reinforcing the district's commitment to sustainable healthcare practices. The DC further instructed to initiate the excavation of Kaccha and Pacca waste disposal sites at all sub-centers in accordance with established guidelines. He set Feb 20, 2025 as the deadline for obtaining consent and authorization from the Pollution Control Committee.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik; CMO Dr. Parvaiz Khan; District Officer Pollution Control Committee, Block Medical Officers from Mandi, Surankote, and Mendhar among others.
