JAMMU: The residents of Vasant Vihar have been facing an acute water shortage for the past 10 days, leaving them with no choice but to stage a massive protest against the authorities. Despite regularly paying their water bills, the people are struggling due to the government's failure to provide a stable water supply.
During the protest, senior community leader Sardar Amrik Singh strongly criticized the administration's inaction and stated, "If the government cannot ensure a permanent solution to this crisis, they should at least arrange daily water tankers for the affected areas. Water is a basic necessity, not a luxury. The residents should not have to suffer due to administrative inefficiency."
Prerna Nanda also addressed the gathering and voiced her concern, saying, "It is extremely unfortunate that the people of Vasant Vihar are being deprived of something as essential as water. The authorities must act swiftly to restore the supply. If an immediate solution is not possible, they should ensure that water tankers are deployed daily so that no household remains without water. We stand in solidarity with the people and will continue to raise this issue until a resolution is reached."
She further emphasized the challenges faced by daily wagers, stating, "We understand the problems faced by daily wage workers, but the government must also recognize their hardships and find a proper solution. These workers rely on their daily earnings to sustain their families, and the ongoing water crisis only adds to their struggles. The government must take decisive action to resolve this issue at the earliest."
The protesters also expressed their frustration with the behavior of officials responsible for water distribution, alleging that they have been unresponsive and unhelpful. Many residents demanded stricter accountability and efficient management of the water supply system. With a large number of residentsâincluding women, senior citizens, and youthâparticipating in the demonstration, the protest sent a strong message to the administration. The people of Basant Vihar urge the government to take immediate action to resolve this crisis before the situation worsens.
The residents, along with community leaders, will continue to push for a solution and expect prompt action from the authorities. The prominent persons participated in protest rally are S.
