JAMMU: The Management Committee of Rehan Basera (Home for Urban Homeless) Boria Basti, Gorkh Nagar, Bahu Fort, Jammu celebrated Ganga Dussehra and world environmental Day. The Ganga Dussehra was celebrated at most sacred place of Har- Ki- Pauri Bahu Fort, Jammu under the aegis of 108 Swami Mahadev Saraswati Gaddi Nasheen of Har- Ki-Pauri char daam and Baghe- Bahu Mandirs.
Most of the arrangements were made by the management of Har-Ki-Pauri under the guidance of Swami Ji. While speaking on this occasion 108 Swami Mahadev Sarswati said Ganga Dussehra is regarded as one of the most important festivals among hindus. This day is fully devoted to the veneration of Goddess Ganga. It is widely recognized that this day marks the sacred occasion when Goddess Ganga descended on earth. Thus it is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of Goddess Ganga. The Ganga Arti was performed by Swami Mahadev Sarswati, Pt. Rajesh and other members.
While speaking on this occasion Sh. Vikram Randhawa hon’ble MLA said that this festival is celebrated all over India with reverence and devotion. The devotees believe that if they take bath in holy river Ganga on this day, their sins are cleansed and they will gain spiritual peace. He said that the devotees offer flowers, lamps and incense to Maa Ganga. The people also donate food, clothes and money to needy. Randhawa expressed that Ganga Dussehra holds an immense religious and spiritual importance and regarded as propitious occasion to pay tributes to Goddess Ganga.
Simulataneously world enivornmental Day was also celebrated and shamlal Basson Ex-Councillor threw light regarding significance of world environment day. He elaborated that the governments around the world marked the world Environmental Day under the theme” Beat Plastic Pollution.” Sham Basson further said that to protect the environment, individuals can implement sustainable practices at home and in their daily lives including reducing waste, conserving energy and water and making conscious choice about their consumption habits. He further said that water pollution, soil pollution and air pollution are dangerous for this planet.
We should reduce, reuse and recycle waste, plant more trees, create healthier ecosystem, conserve water, use ecofriendly products and avoid single use plastic, we should reduce use of chemicals. The management Rehan Basera pledged to start plantation drive during coming rainy season, everybody should plant a tree to save environment.
Madam veena Bakshi Manager Rehan Basera and state president Mahila Sehkar Bharti threw light on the importance of Ganga Dussehra and told about the Rituals and Puja vidhi on Ganga Dussehra. The people of Jammu Gathered at sacred ghat of SuryaPutri Tawi known as Har-Ki-Pauri. She narrated that major pilgrimage sites to visit on Ganga Dussehra are Varanasi, Haridwar and Rishikesh, Prayagraj, Garhmukteshwar. So long as Jammu Kshmir is concerned main gathering point is Har-Ki-Pauri. Veena Bakshi thanked all the devotees and dignitaries who participated in the function. She thanked 108 Swami Mahdev Sarswati for extending full support for this function.
