KISHTWAR: To promote environmental sustainability and the spirit of cooperation, a plantation drive was today organised on the historic Chowgan Ground by the Department of Cooperatives in collaboration with the Municipal Council Kishtwar as part of the ongoing Sewa Parv 2025 Campaign. Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma, the Chief Guest launched the drive by planting a sapling.

 The plantation drive also marked the observance of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, celebrating the pivotal role of cooperatives in socio-economic development. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials of the Cooperative Department, staff of the Municipal Council Kishtwar and a large number of local residents.

Addressing the gathering, the DC highlighted the significance of Sewa Parv, a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering a culture of community service and selfless contribution to society. He emphasized that such programs are crucial for encouraging civic responsibility, environmental consciousness, and collective efforts toward sustainable development.

 He further added that the cooperative movement has long served as a backbone of rural and semi-urban progress, and such initiatives further highlight the importance of collective action in addressing global challenges, including climate change. Saplings of a variety of trees were planted at strategic locations, reaffirming the district’s commitment to creating a greener and healthier environment. The drive was held under the supervision of Deputy Registrar Cooperative/ EO Municipal Council Mirza Mumtaz Iqbal.
