SHOPIAN: District Mineral Office, Shopian, has issued directions for mandatory installation of AIS-140 approved GPS tracking devices on all vehicles and machinery engaged in mineral extraction and transportation in the district.

The order is issued in pursuance of the directions from the Directorate of Geology & Mining, J&K and in accordance with the MoEF&CC guidelines (2020) to ensure transparency, effective monitoring, and prevention of illegal mining.

All mineral concessionaires, crusher units, brick kiln holders, and vehicle owners in District Shopian have been instructed to install GPS devices procured from MoRTH-empanelled vendors. Further, transportation of minerals shall be permitted only with a valid e-Challan bearing QR code generated through the Department's online portal.

The installation of GPS tracking devices must be completed on or before January 20, 2026. Any non-compliance with these directions shall invite strict action as per the provisions of law.
