KUPWARA: In a concerted effort to curb the growth and spread of wild cannabis, teams from the Revenue Department and the Excise Department carried out a destruction drive in the Handwara region today.

Acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, DC Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb  Suse and under the supervision of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, (ADC), Handwara, Javed Naseem Masoodi, joint team led by the Tehsildar Handwara, along with officials from the Excise Department Kupwara, destroyed a large patch of wild cannabis at Chota Braripora, located along the Kupwara-Handwara highway.

The operation covered approximately four to five kanals of land, including a dense patch in village, where wild cannabis had been growing unchecked. Local residents welcomed the initiative, praising the civil administration for its swift and timely intervention. 

They expressed hope that such actions would continue to help reduce the potential misuse of narcotic plants in the region. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance against the growth of such illegal plants and ensuring the safety and well-being of the local population.
