POONCH: A meeting of the District Level Committee, constituted in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court in the matter "City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay Price," was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Poonch at the DC Office Complex.

The meeting deliberated on implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme, aimed at scientifically managing the stray dog population and reducing incidents of dog bites while ensuring animal welfare.

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the preparedness of departments concerned and called for a coordinated and time-bound approach to the programme. Discussions also covered establishment of required infrastructure, strengthening veterinary support, public awareness and inter-departmental coordination for humane sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination of stray dogs.

Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Poonch apprised the Chair of the present status of the proposed ABC Programme, initiatives undertaken by the Municipal Council and the logistical and infrastructural requirements for its implementation. The Deputy Commissioner directed departments concerned to work in close coordination and ensure timely implementation of decisions taken during the meeting.

Among those present were Deputy Superintendent of Police (DAR), Chief Medical Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Poonch, District Nodal Officer for the ABC Programme and other officers concerned.
