JAMMU: Synergetic Green Warriors Foundation conducted a series of plantation drives across Jammu as part of its continuing mission to promote environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and public participation in green initiatives.

The main plantation drive was conducted at Gurukul Jammu and was hosted by the Management Committee of Gurukul, including Sh. Arun Sharma, Sh. Anil Gaind and other trustees. Students of Gurukul took active part in the programme and planted fruit plants including mango, papaya, guava, grapes and litchi. Medicinal plants such as rosemary, insulin plant and gudmar were also planted to promote awareness about the value of herbal and traditional plant resources.

An awareness camp on plantation and environmental conservation was also held at Gurukul. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sonia Verma, MD/CEO, Synergetic Green Warriors Foundation, highlighted the present climate scenario and said that changing weather patterns, rising temperatures and the impact of El Niño have made plantation and biodiversity conservation more important than ever. She stressed the need for regular plantation drives, protection of planted saplings and conservation of regional biodiversity. She also emphasized the importance of preserving local traditional knowledge related to plants, herbs and natural resources.

Dr. Verma further stated that Jammu was once known as a land rich in mango diversity, but many local mango varieties are now dwindling. She said it is the duty of society to preserve the heritage flora and fauna of Jammu. In this direction, SGWF has taken an initiative to preserve local mango varieties through grafting and layering methods. She also informed that a nursery has been prepared at the SGWF headquarters for conserving local flora and fauna, and the plants, once ready, will be distributed among villagers.

In a significant move, SGWF also signed an MoU with FICOS Jammu to strengthen joint plantation and conservation activities. Under this collaboration, it was decided to plant two Palash plants at each cremation ground so that people can easily get Palash leaves at the source for rituals. Both organizations also agreed to plant Peepal trees in large numbers in every village.

Savita Jamwal, while addressing the participants, spoke about the importance of plantation drives in improving air quality, reducing heat, conserving soil and creating a healthy environment for future generations. She encouraged students and community members to take responsibility for nurturing the plants after plantation.

Bindu Sharma also addressed the gathering and said that plantation drives are not only environmental activities but also social responsibilities. She urged people to adopt plants, protect local green spaces and participate actively in community-based environmental programmes.

Another plantation drive was held at the headquarters of FICOS Jammu, where fruit, medicinal and ornamental plants were planted. Continuing the campaign, a further plantation drive was organized at Chuki Chora, where women from the village appreciated the initiative and pledged to save the environment by protecting plants and encouraging others to support green activities.

Miss Kareena, Intern at SGWF, shared her experience of working with Synergetic Green Warriors Foundation. She spoke about the important role of NGOs in society and said that such organizations help connect people with meaningful causes, spread awareness and encourage collective action for social and environmental welfare. She also presented the vote of thanks on all occasions and expressed gratitude to the host institutions, trustees, students, village women, volunteers and participants for their support.

The drives were conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sonia Verma, MD/CEO, SGWF, with the active participation of Savita Jamwal, Bindu Sharma, Munna Sharma, Miss Kareena, Intern at SGWF, Anmol Verma, Research Associate at SGWF, and Dr. Rakesh Verma, Director R&D.

Synergetic Green Warriors Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to continue plantation drives, awareness camps, nursery development and biodiversity conservation activities across Jammu for building a cleaner, greener and healthier society.
