KUPWARA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today attended the closing ceremony of the 3-day Skill Development training programme under Silk SAMAGRA capacity building for farmers of sericulture at Sericulture Development Department Kupwara. 45 Farmers (cocoon growers) across the district participated in the training programme which commenced from 18.7.2024 to 20.7.2024.
The DC, while interacting with progressive farmers congratulated them for successful conclusion of the training programme. She said that the sector has the potential to increase income generation, particularly for unemployed youth and small farmers. Development officer Extension and Training Sericulture highlighted the necessity of skill upgradation for silkworm rearers to ensure they adopt scientific rearing techniques.
âThe department is committed to organising regular capacity-building programmes for silkworm rearers and youth,â he said adding that the initiative aims to increase awareness about the latest sericulture techniques practiced through mass awareness programmes, exposure visits and other capacity-building activities.
The DC distributed skill development training course certificates among the trainee farmers. Development Officer Extension and Training Sericulture, M Abdulla Bhat and other Officers and officials were also present on the occasion.
