JAMMU: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), University of Jammu, organized a Job Fair on February 3, 2026, as part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations, in collaboration with the District Employment & Counselling Centre, J&K, and Model Career Centre, Jammu. The event aimed to enhance employability, career awareness, and skill development among aspirants and students.
The programme began with registration, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment. The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu.
Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, appreciated CDOE for organizing the Job Fair. He further emphasized the role of various government schemes in strengthening the economy and boosting tourism in Jammu & Kashmir. He remarked that students of J&K are highly capable of achieving their goals. He stressed the need for expansion of the IT sector in the region to stay relevant to the technology-driven world.
Mr. Mukhlis Ali, JKAS, Assistant Director, District Employment & Counselling Centre, Jammu, in his address, elaborated on the services and responsibilities of the Employment Department and sensitized participants about government initiatives for self-employment, including the success of Mission YUVA.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Pankaj K. Srivastava, Director, CDOE, spoke about the significance of the Job Fair, which has become a regular annual feature in CDOE. He highlighted the contribution of CDOE in imparting knowledge and skills relevant to the job market, reinforcing CDOE’s role in preparing students for emerging employment opportunities.
In her welcome address, Prof. Sandeep Kour Tandon, Convener, Job Fair, Department of Commerce, CDOE, warmly welcomed the dignitaries, recruiters, and participants. She highlighted CDOE’s continuous efforts to bridge the gap between education and employment and reaffirmed its commitment to student-centric skill development. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jaspal Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Education, CDOE. The programme was hosted by Dr. Deepti Abrol, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, CDOE.
During the Job Fair, four stalls were set up by various government departments and organizations, including the Department of Industries and Commerce, Women Development Corporation, Mission YUVA, and National Career Service Centre for SC/ST, providing information on free coaching, training programmes, and career guidance.
A total of 34 companies participated in the Job Fair and conducted interviews. The event recorded registrations of approximately 800 participants. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and job aspirants, and quite a good number of candidates were selected by various companies on the spot.
The Job Fair proved to be a significant initiative in providing employment opportunities and career guidance, reaffirming CDOE’s commitment to academic excellence, employability enhancement, and societal development.
