JAMMU: The Department of Economics, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), organised an academic exposure visit for students of Semesters II, IV and VI of the B.Sc. (Hons.)–M.Sc. Integrated Programme to the Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Jammu. The visit was inspired by the visionary guidance of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, and aimed at bridging classroom learning with real-world institutional practices.

The interactive academic session at NABARD was chaired by Shri Vikas Mittal, General Manager, NABARD, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Region, who apprised the students of NABARD’s pivotal role in strengthening rural credit delivery systems, promoting inclusive finance, and supporting sustainable rural development. He elaborated on NABARD’s key initiatives in agricultural finance, Self-Help Group (SHG)–Bank linkage programmes, rural infrastructure development, and livelihood promotion, with special reference to the socio-economic context of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to the functioning of a premier development finance institution and facilitated meaningful interactions with senior NABARD officials on issues related to rural development policy, institutional finance, and grassroots economic planning.

On the occasion, Ms. Preeti Gupta, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Vishal, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, CUJ, formally felicitated Shri Vikas Mittal and expressed their sincere appreciation to NABARD for organising the interaction at short notice. They highlighted the significance of such institutional engagements in enhancing students’ practical understanding of development economics and public policy.

At the conclusion of the programme, Ms. Preeti Gupta delivered the official vote of thanks, acknowledging the support and cooperation extended by NABARD officials and reiterating the Department’s commitment to strengthening academic–institutional linkages for holistic student learning.
