JAMMU: To foster scientific temperament, creativity and innovation among students, Government Degree College Marh Science club, in collaboration with IIC and IQAC, organized Inter- Discipline quiz competition to mark National Science Day celebrating this year’s theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for VIKSIT BHARAT.”
Principal Prof (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Koul emphasised the importance of science and technology in shaping the future. He appraised the students that the aim of this competition is not about winning and losing but learning and enhancing their scientific temperament. The competition featured basic concepts from Bio-Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences, Current affairs & Science and Technology, allowing students to showcase their knowledge, social responsibility and problem-solving skills.
As many as 12 students, divided in 4 teams, participate in the four round quiz competition. In the valedictory session, prizes (momentos and certificates) were given away to the winning teams and the participants. First prize was won by team D, Mercury (Kunal, Sanjay, and Suresh), while Team B Venus (Diksha, Shilpa, Abhishek) won second prize and Team C Earth (Mohit, Geetanajli and Shivansh) won the third prize. IQAC convener, Prof. Imtiaz Shahid made all the requisite preparations for ensuring a flawless execution of the competition. Dr. Balwinder Saini (HOD Chemistry) conducted the proceedings of the programme.
The event was conducted with full cooperation by Dr. Madhvi Parasher (HOD Botany), Dr Rahul Sharma (HOD Computer Applications), Dr. Ram Dayal (HOD Maths), Prof. Anjana Chib (HOD Environmental Sciences), Prof Ashakumari (HOD Geography)and Dr. Gurleen Kour.Prof. Sachin Kumar Bhagat (NSS PO), Ravi Kumar (PTI) and BrijBir Jaswal (HOD Physics) were also present during the event.
The students provided highly positive feedback regarding the competition and stated that such contests need to be held on regular intervals to spread knowledge and develop decision making and problem solving skills among them.
