JAMMU: A local court in Jammu has stayed the upcoming elections of the All Jammu and Kashmir Oil and LPG Tank Truck Drivers’ Union, temporarily halting the poll process. As per the order dated 02 June 2025, the Court of 3rd Sub-Judge (Excise Mobile Magistrate, Jammu) has also stayed all election-related notices issued by the Returning Officer, Mr. M.R. Chak, a retired District and Sessions Judge.

The notices dated 24 April, 22 May, and 31 May 2025 had outlined the schedule and procedures for the union elections. Union President Sardar Ranjit Singh Raina confirmed the court’s decision and informed that the Returning Officer has been directed not to proceed further until the next hearing. The stay effectively puts all election-related activities on hold.

Significantly, the stay order has come during the crucial Advance Winter Stocking (AWS) period for the Ladakh region—a time when essential fuel supplies are dispatched to Leh and Kargil before the onset of winter. One of the contesting candidates noted that conducting elections at this point could have disrupted AWS operations, as many tanker drivers would have been occupied with election responsibilities. The issue is expected to remain in focus, both publicly and administratively, as further details unfold in the coming days.
