PULWAMA: In view of World Environment Day 2025, a series of awareness and community engagement programmes were held today across various parts of Pulwama district. These events were organised to highlight the importance of environmental conservation and promote sustainable practices among all sections of society.
One of the main events of the day was organised by the Municipal Council Pulwama, which hosted a vibrant programme marked by enthusiastic public participation. The celebrations began with a symbolic Plough Run from Shaheed Park to Town Hall Pulwama, drawing attention to themes such as soil preservation, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly living. The run witnessed active involvement from students, volunteers, civil society members, and officials.
Following the run, a formal event was held at Town Hall Pulwama, where the Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Pulwama, emphasised the urgent need for collective environmental responsibility and broader public involvement in combating climate challenges. The event also featured plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and awareness sessions on key environmental issues including plastic waste reduction, water conservation, and proper waste management.
In a similar spirit, schools across the district observed World Environment Day in collaboration with the Rural Development Department. The celebrations included drawing competitions, essay writing, quizzes, eco-club exhibitions, and student-led cleanliness drives.
These activities were designed to engage young minds and instill a deep-rooted sense of responsibility towards nature. Teachers, students, and officials collectively took a pledge to adopt environmental friendly habits and actively contribute to building a greener, healthier planet.
