ANANTNAG: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, themed ‘Ending Global Plastic Pollution,’ the Rural Development Department (RDD) Anantnag today launched a transformative, district-wide campaign under the banner: “From Villages to Victory: RDD Anantnag Says No to Plastic Pollution!”
Spanning all 16 blocks of the district—including Achabal, Dachnipora, Shangus, Qazigund, Breng, Chittergul, K.Pora, Shahabad, Vessu, and others—this campaign reflects a powerful demonstration of rural unity, environmental awareness and grassroots action.
From large-scale plastic cleanup drives to innovative recycling initiatives and the promotion of eco-friendly agricultural practices, RDD Anantnag has been actively empowering communities to become champions of sustainability.
In a significant initiative at Sandoo, Block Achabal, officials and local residents joined forces to clean a vital irrigation canal. By removing plastic bags, bottles, and other waste, the team successfully restored the canal's flow, safeguarding surrounding agricultural lands from contamination. This event highlighted the impact of collective rural effort in environmental conservation.
Building on past achievements, the Block Development Office Khoveripora set a notable precedent through an impactful event held at a Mission Amrit Sarovar site. Shangus organized plastic waste segregation drives, Qazigund promoted eco-friendly farming practices, and Khoveripora conducted student-led awareness campaigns, reinforcing the district's unwavering dedication to environmental protection.
In Sadura, Block Vessu, officials came together to take a solemn pledge to protect the environment, standing united before a commemorative plaque—a symbolic gesture of RDD Anantnag’s deep-rooted commitment to sustainability.
To mark the day further, RDD Department Anantnag proudly celebrated activities at 16 Amrit Sarovar sites, in collaboration with the J&K Forest Department. These events saw the participation of over 150 individuals, showcasing the spirit of community-driven environmental stewardship.
The RDD Department Anantnag remains resolute in its mission to promote sustainable rural development, conserve natural ecosystems, and empower communities. Through sustained efforts and collective resolve, the district is paving the way towards a plastic-free, cleaner, and greener future for generations to come.
