JAMMU: To mark Rare Disease Day, the Institute of Human Genetics and the Department of Zoology, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, Jammu, organized an awareness program on Rare Genetic Disorders. The event was held under the Mission Program on Pediatrics Rare Genetic Diseases, a DBT-sponsored initiative, and aimed at enhancing understanding and awareness of rare genetic conditions, their impact, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Digra, a distinguished pediatrician from SMGS Hospital, Jammu, delivered an insightful lecture on the prevalence, causes, inheritance patterns, and impact of rare genetic diseases on individuals and families. He stressed the significance of early detection, advanced diagnostic techniques, and genetic counseling in improving patient care. He also highlighted how the Mission Program on Pediatrics Rare Genetic Diseases is helping people receive proper diagnosis and support.
The event began with a welcome address by Prof. B.K. Bajaj, Coordinator, Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu. A large number of research scholars and students from the Institute of Human Genetics, Department of Zoology, Biotechnology, and Central University of Jammu participated with great enthusiasm.
Dr. Parvinder Kumar expressed gratitude to Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Digra and other distinguished guests, including Prof. B.K. Bajaj, Dr. Arti Sharma, Dr. Sarbjeet Kour, Dr. Amit Gupta, Dr. Nisha Kapoor, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, and Dr. Shaspal, for their valuable insights. The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Mohd Younis, Dr. Meenakshee Sharma, Dr. Sonia Sharma, and Dr. Monika Pandita.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Parvinder Kumar, acknowledging the contributions of all dignitaries, participants, and organizers in making the event a success.
