JAMMU: A series of plantation drives were organized to make the celebration of World Environment Day by Nowshera Forest Division. The day began with plantation drive at Bharat Public Hr. Sec. School Sunderbani, New Public Hr. Sec. School Sunderbani (Sodra) and International Public Hr. Sec. School Bajabain in which Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunderbani Sh. Ramkesh Sharma JKAS, Range Forest Officer Sunderbani Arif Mirza, Station House officer, Sunderbani Rajeev Kumar , Prinicipal, Staff, Students and Forest personals participated with plantation of saplings of different medicinal and ornamental species inside school premises.
While speaking on the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sunderbani explained that this year world environment day is celebrated with special focus on ending plastic pollution. The theme for this year world Environment day is âputting an end to Plastic Pollutionâ. This day is no longer just an echo of environment protection slogan. But a mirror for all walks of life to re-examine ecological responsibility and sustainable development.
In an another event, a cleanliness drive was jointly organized with Muncipal Committee Sunderbani in which locals, shop keepers, along with forest staff participated and cleaned , removed plastic waste from the road leading to Sub. Distt. Hospital.
A similar plantation drive was also organized in collaboration with 72 BN CRPF at Sodra. In which Deputy Inspector General Himanshu Kumar,Dy Commandant P C Nayke along with Range Forest Officer Sunderbani conducted plantation drive by planting fruit trees of various species by family members of staff and other CRPF and forest personnelâs.
Range officer Sunderbani while interacting with media stressed that plastic pollution is a global crisis affectively ecosystem, biodiversity and human health. It is the need of the hour to make conscious choices in daily life to minimize plastic use. All the events are conducted under the direct supervision of Sh. Sat Paul IFS. Conservator of Forest west circle Rajouri and guidance of Shweta Deonia DCF Divisional Forest Officer Nowshera.
