JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC), a registered organization working for the welfare of border residents and the tribal population of J&K, has urged the government to immediately resume work on the Mendhar Mini Secretariat and to hold accountable those responsible for the delays that have stretched over 14 years.
Today, Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman JK_BADC and former VC held a press conference along with prominent locals of Mendhar including Dr Younis Choudhary , retired CMO. In the media interaction , Dr. Shazad criticized all successive political representatives of Mendhar for neglecting the people of this important town. Whereas Dr Younis also accused leaders from all political parties of failing to speak for the rights of Mendharâs residents.
Dr. Choudhary in his brief informed that the construction of the Mendhar Mini Secretariat, which began nearly 15 years ago with an estimated cost of Rs. 14 crore, has seen more than half of the funds spent so far. Despite this progress, the project has been halted. The BADC Chairman Shazad explained that the project was sanctioned in 2010 to house all important sub-district level offices under one roof. However, although Rs. 7 to Rs. 10 crore has been spent, the work was inexplicably stopped by those in charge without any clear reason.
Former VC remarked, âThis incomplete, abandoned building serves as a stark reminder of the incompetence of former MLAs and MLCs, who, despite having the opportunity to serve the people, chose to remain passive for their own petty gains.â He emphasized that Mendhar Sub-Division is a key administrative area near the J&K border, comprising three tehsils, three blocks, and 75 panchayats.
Dr Shazad urged the residents of Mendhar, Balakote, and Mankote not to forget the negligence and incompetence of their political representatives, which has hindered development in their areas. He also demanded a thorough investigation to uncover the reasons behind the abandonment of the Mini Secretariat Project and to ensure that such delays do not occur in the future.
BADC requested the Government restart the work of Mini Secretariat.
