BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla successful facilitated the Tourist Movement amid heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions in Tangmarg Sub-Division. Amid snowfall, large number of tourists and visitors found themselves stuck on either side of the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road which was witnessing hazardous and life-threatening conditions. In a coordinated and swift response, Police facilitated the safe movement of approximately 1600 tourists under extremely challenging weather conditions. 1000 guests were safely moved from Tangmarg to Gulmarg while 600 guests were assisted in the opposite direction (from Gulmarg to Tangmarg/Srinagar side).

All the officers and personnel of police were on ground coordinating the operation on ground with magistracy, MED, CAPF and all sister security forces. The movement was simultaneously being coordinated with Budgam and Srinagar police as well.

Through a carefully regulated one-way corridor system, batches of 10 to 12 vehicles were facilitated alternately in upward and downward directions on the GT road. All vehicles employed in the movement were 4x4 SUVs equipped with anti-skid chains to ensure grip and stability on the snow-covered and slippery stretches.

Police reiterates that only vehicles fitted with anti-skid chains and adhering to safety norms are permitted on the route. There are apprehensions of formation of black ice and slippery road conditions in the coming days and travellers are advised to act in line with the various advisories in vogue. Police advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during snowfall, follow official advisories, and remain assured that police assistance is available round the clock.
