- Hails measures as pro-people and business-friendly; says reforms will ease compliance, boost transparency, empower small entrepreneurs
JAMMU: Welcoming the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms announced by the Central Government, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir spokesman Altaf Thakur on Thursday said the decisions reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a people-centric economy and will bring immense relief to common citizens, small traders and entrepreneurs.
Thakur described the reforms as “a historic step towards strengthening India’s economy while ensuring that the benefits of growth trickle down to the grassroots level.” “These measures are not just technical tax reforms; they are pro-people reforms,” Thakur said. “From small shoepkeepers to budding entrepreneurs, everyone will benefit. The simplification of procedures will reduce harassment, cut down on compliance costs, and allow people to focus on growing their businesses rather than being burdened by paperwork.”
Highlighting the impact on Jammu and Kashmir, Thakur said the Union Territory’s expanding horticulture, handicrafts, tourism, and industrial sectors stand to gain enormously. “Our artisans, growers, traders, and service providers will now have a smoother platform to conduct business. This is a clear message from the Centre that development and empowerment of every citizen is the government’s priority,” he added.
Thakur further stated that the reforms will enhance transparency and accountability in the tax system, ensuring that the benefits of revenue generation are channelled back into welfare schemes for ordinary citizens. “This is true empowerment—making the system work for the people, not the other way around,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the Centre, the BJP spokesman said the party will continue to work at the grassroots level to make sure that traders, industrialists, and citizens understand and fully benefit from the new measures. “The Modi government has once again proven that its governance model is guided by the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’. Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing real change, and these reforms will only accelerate our journey towards economic self-reliance,” Thakur concluded.
