JAMMU: The Department of  Economics, School of  Humanities and Social Sciences, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), successfully organised a talk on “Decoding the Union Budget 2026–27”. The event was held under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, and was graced by the presence of the keynote speaker Sh. Arun Gupta, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu.

The session was chaired by Prof. Neelika Arora, Dean, School of  Business Studies, CU Jammu and was attended by Prof. Aswini Kumar Nanda, Dean, School of  Humanities and Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Economics, along with esteemed faculty members, research scholars, and students. The primary objective of the session was to understand and analyse the Union Budget and explain its implications for the economy, industry, and everyday life.

The programme commenced with a formal welcome address and an introductory overview of the Union Budget by Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, CUJ. This was followed by the invocation through Saraswati Vandana and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and faculty members. A concise presentation highlighting key aspects of the Union Budget was delivered by Ms. Bhavya Mahajan, Research Scholar, Department of Economics, after which the dignitaries were felicitated.

In his keynote address, Sh. Arun Gupta provided a comprehensive analysis of the Union Budget, highlighting its sector-wise impact with special emphasis on the economic prospects of Jammu and Kashmir. The session concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, during which students actively participated and posed insightful questions to the panel.

In her concluding remarks, Prof. Neelika Arora emphasized the importance of viewing the budget in its entirety rather than from an individualistic perspective. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Arundhati Sharma, third-year undergraduate student, Department of Economics.
