BALTAL: In a significant move to promote safe sanitation practices during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Ms. Anoo Malhotra, Director General Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated a Nukkad Natak show at the Baltal Basecamp. The event aimed to educate pilgrims and locals about the importance of maintaining hygiene and sanitation throughout the Yatra.

The Nukkad Natak, a popular street play format, was organized to engage the audience in an interactive and impactful manner. Through captivating performances, the artists conveyed crucial messages on the proper use of sanitation facilities, the importance of handwashing, and responsible waste disposal practices. The initiative is part of the broader Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) strategy designed to ensure a clean and hygienic environment during the pilgrimage.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Anoo Malhotra emphasized the significance of community involvement in maintaining sanitation standards. "It is imperative that we work collectively to uphold the sanctity of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra by adhering to safe sanitation practices. This Nukkad Natak is a creative way to engage with the pilgrims and impart essential hygiene messages," she stated.

Following the Nukkad Natak, Ms. Malhotra visited the Waste Management Facilities operated by Urban Enviro Waste Management Ltd. at Domail camp. The site visit aimed to review the functionality of the sanitation facilities and ensure they are equipped to handle the influx of pilgrims. During her inspection, she interacted with the staff and assessed the operational efficiency of the waste management systems in place.

Ms. Malhotra expressed satisfaction with the measures implemented by Urban Enviro Waste Management Ltd. "The facilities at Domail camp are crucial in our efforts to manage waste effectively and maintain a clean environment for the pilgrims. It is encouraging to see the commitment and diligence of the team in ensuring the success of these initiatives," she remarked.

The Directorate of Rural Sanitation, in collaboration with various stakeholders, continues to prioritize the well-being of pilgrims through comprehensive sanitation strategies. These efforts are pivotal in achieving the goal of sustainable sanitation and a zero-landfill pilgrimage experience.
