RAJOURI: Government Post Graduate College Rajouri, under the banner of Sewa Parv, organised two major environment-friendly events—a cleanliness drive in the Boys’ Hostels and a Mega Plantation Drive in the College Campus. Both programmes were conducted under the overall supervision of the Principal Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza.
The day commenced with a cleanliness drive in and around the Boys’ Hostel. The hostel students, led by Prof. Murtaza Ahmed, Hostel Warden, enthusiastically participated in the campaign. They actively removed wild weeds like parthenium, collected wrappers, cleared garbage dumps, and ensured proper disposal of waste material. This initiative aimed not only to provide a hygienic living environment for hostel residents but also to inculcate a sense of responsibility and discipline towards cleanliness and sustainability.
In the second session of the day, the focus shifted to the Mega Plantation Drive held in the College Campus. The event was coordinated by the College Eco Club and the College Beautification Committee, under the supervision of Prof. Naveen Sharma, Convener and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences (EVS). The drive was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, who planted the first guava sapling in the College Botanical Garden. Thereafter, students and faculty members joined in with great zeal, contributing to the plantation of nearly 200 saplings of various plant species across the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mirza highlighted the importance of such initiatives in combating environmental challenges like climate change, deforestation, and pollution. He appreciated the efforts of the Eco Club and Beautification Committee for their dedication in making the campus greener and cleaner.
Several distinguished faculty members graced the occasion with their presence and participation, including Prof. Altaf Ahmed, Dr. Flourance Chand, Prof. Sabia Akhtar, Dr. Mazar Ali Shah, along with many other staff members and students. Their collective involvement reflected the College’s firm commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development. The day-long programmes concluded with a pledge by students and faculty to continue their active participation in creating a clean, green and eco-friendly campus.
