SHOPIAN: In an uncompromising and resolute campaign against drug trafficking, Police in Shopian has delivered decisive blows during the year 2025, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to protect society and uphold the rule of law.
During the year, 72 FIRs were registered under relevant provisions of law across various police stations of the district, leading to the arrest of 84 accused persons involved in drug trafficking and peddling. To neutralize habitual offenders and prevent future crimes, 10 notorious drug traffickers were booked under the stringent PIT NDPS Act, reflecting a strict zero-tolerance policy.
As a result of sustained enforcement, 317.532 kilograms of narcotics, including Charas, Cannabis, Poppy Straw and Heroin were seized. Additionally, 24,700 ml of Codeine-based syrups (Wylcerex, Sufinex, Codeine) and 195 tablets of Anxit/Alprazolam were recovered. The total seized contraband is valued at several crores of rupees.
In a major strike against the financial backbone of the drug trade, 04 residential properties acquired through proceeds of narcotics crime were seized following due legal process, with an approximate value of ₹1 crore. Further, 716.866 kilograms of contraband and 23,700 ml of illicit drug bottles, related to 58 previous NDPS cases, were successfully destroyed at Kashmir Health Care System, IGC Lassipora, involving drugs worth crores of rupees. Besides, wild cannabis (bung) cultivated on about 100 kanals of state land was also identified and destroyed.
J&K Police reiterates its steadfast resolve to eradicate drugs from the valley and urges parents, youth and civil society to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The campaign against drugs will continue with greater intensity, stronger enforcement and focused preventive measures, ensuring that Shopian remains safe, secure, drug-free and law-abiding.
