NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has said that transformative decision of abrogation of Article 370 and 35A has ushered in a new era of empowerment for marginalized sections and strengthened grassroots democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
In a post on X platform, Shri Amit Shah said that “Today marks five years since the historic abrogation of Article 370 and 35A under PM Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership. This transformative decision has ushered in a new era of empowerment for marginalized sections and strengthened grassroots democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The region's youth have driven socio-economic growth and cultural revival, making the Modi govt's efforts to foster peace and comprehensive development a grand success. We thank Modi Ji for this landmark decision and reaffirm our dedication to advancing the region's aspirations and transformative progress.”
SRINAGAR: In a statement today, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha said that enduring peace is gradually returning to Jammu and Kashmir and this achievement belongs to all citizens.
Following is the draft of Lieutenant Governor's statement:
“In the past 5 years democracy has taken deep roots in the Union Territory of J&K. Enthusiastic participation and record voter turnout in the recently held Lok Sabha election is a testimony to people's faith in the constitution and internalisation of the spirit of democracy.
Under the guidance of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, we have kept the flame of inclusive development and social equality burning ever-bright illuminating J&K’s journey in the past 5 years. Economically deprived section of the society has been empowered.
Overall economy of J&K has been growing at an impressive pace. Rapid growth and transformation in sectors like health, education, public works, urban and rural development and power over the past 5 years is unprecedented in UT's history.
The period after 5th August 2019 bears sufficient proof that women, youth, farmers and entrepreneurs have excelled themselves and they are wholeheartedly contributing to the sacred duty of nation building.
Today J&K is witnessing an era of peace, progress and prosperity. Schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and other public institutions are functioning without any disturbances. Earlier practice of daily hartals, strikes, stone pelting and bandhs are things of the past now.
J&K is certainly on the march. The UT has made sufficient progress especially in the areas of infrastructure development, tourism, industrialization, social security, employment generation, livelihood creation, public outreach, transparency and providing basic facilities.
The G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting opened new avenues for global partnership that helped in tapping the tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir. J&K has recorded 2.11 Crore tourist visits during 2023 which is the highest ever.
Our tourism initiatives have not only showcased the mesmerizing beauty of J&K but have also spotlighted our culture and heritage. Owing to the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting held in Srinagar, J&K witnessed 2.5 times increase in foreign tourist arrivals.
To boost the industrial sector in J&K, effective policy and enabling environment has been created. Investment proposals worth Rs.1,26,582 Crore with expected employment potential of 4.74 lakhs persons have also been received for setting up of industrial units in the UT”.
SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, held a detailed meeting with the senior officers of Civil administration and Police department to take appraisal of the ongoing activities ahead of the Independence Day and to look into the action plan devised for nation-wide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ program. At the outset, the Chief Secretary had a thorough evaluation of the progress made by each Department and District in furthering the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign started on August 1st.
He also enquired about the activities undertaken in both the rural and urban areas of J&K. The CS took note of the plantation drives held so far especially the response of districts and departments towards ‘Ek Ped Shahidon Ke Naam’ campaign. Dulloo impressed upon the school education department to make National Anthem singing a regular affair in the morning assemblies. He encouraged the district administration to monitor its progress along with other advisable activities designated for the Department.
The Chief Secretary also took this occasion to have an assessment of the preparations made for smooth conduct of the I-Day celebrations across the UT. He enquired from the Divisional Commissioners and each Deputy Commissioner about the availability of venue, traffic and other security measures taken.
As far as the national ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ (HGT) campaign is concerned, the Chief Secretary stressed on making fool proof arrangements to make it a grand success across J&K. He sensitized the Divisional and District administrations to make preparations well ahead of holding these activities and encourage mass participation.
It was given out by Principal Secretary, Culture Department that an action plan had been prepared by the Department to make this campaign a success across J&K. He made out that the activities to be undertaken are holding of Tiranga Yatra before the I-Day in all the districts and at UT level.
The other exercises to be conducted as part of this HGT campaign includes holding of Tiranga concerts in stadiums, parks etc; Paying of Tiranga tribute to martyrs, freedom fighters and their families; taking of Tiranga Pledge in Schools, Colleges, offices and public places; E-Tiranga campaign (2:3 canvas of tricolour) along with signature campaign and installation of banners, hoardings by departments and Districts at prominent public places in the UT.
SRINAGAR: A pledge taking ceremony on ‘Day of Resolution for Freedom from Corruption’ was held at Police Headquarters here today. DIG (Personnel) PHQ Shri M Suleman Choudhary administered oath to the police officers and personnel on the occasion. The pledge taking ceremony was attended by Ms Nisha Nathyal, DIG (Headquarters) PHQ, all AIsG of Police, PHQ, and officers and personnel of PHQ & PCD.
During the ceremony, the officers & personnel took the pledge that, “they shall promote ethical business practices and foster a culture of honesty and integrity, that they shall not offer or accept bribes, that they commit to good corporate governance based on transparency, accountability and fairness, that they shall adhere to relevant laws, rules and compliance mechanisms in the conduct of business, that they shall adopt a code of ethics for all their employees, that they shall sensitize their employees of laws, regulations, etc. relevant to their work for honest discharge of their duties, that they shall provide grievance redressal and Whistle Blower mechanism for reporting grievances and fraudulent activities and that they shall protect the rights and interests of stakeholders and the society at large”.
Meanwhile, the ceremony was also held at all District, Wing, Zonal, Range headquarters of J&K police across the UT with senior officers leading the officers and personnel under their command in the pledge taking ceremony.
JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, under the leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu in association with the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) and under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, has commenced the second batch of Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on Small Business Development Units (SBDUs). The programme is being held at IIM Jammu's state-of-the-art campus at Jagti. The program was inaugurated by Shri. Sudershan Kumar, JKAS, Director, Skill Development, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir in presence of Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics and Program Director, IIM Jammu and Dr. Niti Shekhar, Program Director, IIM Jammu.
The primary objective of the ToT programme is to equip trainers from various proposed SBDUs at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Government Polytechnics with the necessary skills and knowledge to train local entrepreneurs. These SBDUs will serve as district hubs, fostering entrepreneurship and skill development at the grassroots level. The program consists of 20 participants from different ITIs and polytechnics.
Shri Sudershan Kumar, JKAS, Director of Skill Development, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, acknowledged Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, and the IIM Jammu team for their consistent efforts in making this program a reality. He noted that the establishment of SBDUs is a significant step towards empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering a culture of innovation and self-reliance at the grassroots level.
He provided an overview of the employment scenario in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated the new start-up policy that empowers the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region and pushes the employment scenario in the U.T. of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged all participants to make maximum use of the program, highlighting it as a golden opportunity to learn from IIM Jammu and its faculty. He emphasized the importance of implementing the knowledge and skills gained from the program in their respective districts to bring about a significant change in the skilling landscape.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by an address about the SBDU and the program by Shri Shahid Jibran, Project Manager, SBDU, IIM Jammu.
This was followed by an address by Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, and Program Director, ToT, SBDU, IIM Jammu, who provided an overview of various programs at IIM Jammu, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) and the Small Business Development Unit Program. He emphasized the importance of working closely with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted the institute's commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and skill development in the U.T of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Niti Shekhar, Program Director, ToT, SBDU, IIM Jammu. The inaugural ceremony culminated with the national anthem, marking the beginning of a promising initiative aimed at skill development and entrepreneurship promotion. Present on the occasion were, Dr. Vivek Sharma, Chief Innovation Officer, IIM Jammu and Shri Naren Karunakaran, Consultant, SBDU, IIM Jammu along with other team members of SBDU, IIM Jammu.
The Training of Trainers programme aims to prepare participants to establish and run SBDU centres effectively in their respective ITIs and Government Polytechnics. By the end of the five-day training, participants will be well-equipped to impart training to local entrepreneurs, thereby contributing to the overall goal of skill development and entrepreneurship promotion in their districts.
