BHADERWAH: An Information, Education and Communication (IEC) awareness programme was organised at Panchayat Ghar Sindra, Bhalla Block, Sub-Division Bhaderwah, as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), to create awareness among the public, particularly youth, about the ill effects of drug abuse.
The programme sensitised participants to the physical, psychological, social and economic consequences of substance abuse. Speakers said eliminating drug addiction requires the involvement of government departments, local institutions, community leaders, educational institutions and the public.
Representatives from the Police Department, Health Department, Social Welfare Department, Rural Development Department (RDD), National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) and the Youth Services & Sports Department addressed the gathering and shared insights on preventive measures, rehabilitation, legal provisions and the role of their departments in the campaign against substance abuse.
Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Bhaderwah Shahnawaz Ahmad welcomed the participants and delivered the keynote address, highlighting objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and stressing that sustained awareness and community responsibility are essential for a drug-free society. He administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, wherein participants resolved to remain free from drugs, discourage substance abuse within families and communities and contribute towards a drug-free India.
