JAMMU: The two-day National Seminar on “Role of Media in Promoting Indian Knowledge Tradition” organized by the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, Central University of Jammu, under the guidance and patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, concluded today at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, Aryabhatta Building. The seminar witnessed the presentation of 80 research papers from across the country, reflecting significant academic engagement on the theme.

Presiding over the valedictory session, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Prof. Ashwini Kumar Nanda highlighted the vastness and richness of the Indian Knowledge Tradition, describing it as a repository of knowledge accumulated over thousands of years. He emphasized that the media plays a crucial role in disseminating this knowledge to all sections of society. He also noted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has given renewed impetus to the promotion of Indian Knowledge Systems.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu, remarked that Indian Knowledge Tradition teaches the value of being deeply engaged in knowledge. He stated that “one who is immersed in knowledge is truly Indian,” adding that the media has transformed the world into a global village and plays a key role in preserving and promoting cultural values. He expressed pride in India’s legacy as a knowledge leader and affirmed that India will continue to hold this position.

Delivering the valedictory address, Sh. Sanjeev Sharma, Programme Executive at All India Radio, Jammu, emphasized that media serves as a vital bridge in transferring knowledge traditions from one generation to another. He highlighted the role of radio in reaching remote areas and disseminating essential knowledge for societal development.

Presenting the seminar report, Co-Convener Dr. Umesh Kumar informed that a total of 108 abstracts were received from various parts of the country, out of which 80 papers were selected for presentation. The seminar was conducted in nine sessions, including two offline and seven online sessions. The valedictory session was conducted by postgraduate students Mahi Charak and Swati Suman, while the formal vote of thanks was delivered by Seminar Convener Prof. Paramveer Singh. The guests were welcomed by faculty member Pushpalata.

The event was attended by Head of the Department Dr. Abhay S.D. Rajput, Prof. Bharat Bhushan (Head, Department of Hindi), Dr. Rashid Ali, Dr. Shashikant Mishra, Dr. Ratnesh Kumar Yadav, Dr. Vandana Sharma, Dr. Anita, research scholars from Central University of Kashmir, and students and scholars from the Departments of Hindi and Mass Communication of Central University of Jammu. On this occasion, a book titled “Vritti Chitra Nirman” authored by Prof. Paramveer Singh was formally released by the dignitaries. The book provides a comprehensive understanding of documentary filmmaking, including its conceptualization, production, and editing processes. Prof. Singh noted that the book would be highly beneficial for media students and professionals engaged in film production.
