GANDERBAL: The Division of Landscape and Green Mission, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) Friday launched a Weeklong Plantation Drive, from Tulmulla Campus of the varsity. Inaugurating the drive by planting a sapling, Vice Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, described the initiative as a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging community participation in afforestation efforts. Held under the âMission Green Indiaâ campaign, with the motto âEach One Plant One,â he said, the drive aims to enhance green cover, combat environmental degradation, and foster environmental responsibility among students and faculty.
Cluster University of Srinagar, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Mobin also planted a sapling and said, "The drive is not just about planting trees; it is about planting a greener future for generations to come."
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean of International Affairs, Prof. Sandhya Tiwari, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Yousuf, Dean School of Education, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Finance Officer, Dr. Arif Khan, also planted saplings on the occasion.
The drive was organised by Dr. Muhammad Latief, Officer In-charge, Division of Landscape and Green Mission. He said the objective of plantation drives have been recognized as an effective way to combat deforestation, soil erosion, and climate change.
