JAMMU: Under the visionary leadership and patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, the students of the the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Central University of Jammu, participated in the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) 2025, held in Jaipur recently. Recognized as one of India’s most prominent international tourism event, GITB was jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
The event acts as a dynamic platform connecting global buyers, tourism professionals, policymakers, and destination experts from across the world. GITB 2025 showcased innovative elements such as the MEET in INDIA Conclave, cutting-edge exhibitions, and B2B networking sessions. A major focus this year was on positioning India as a leading destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.
The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Sh. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Tourism and Culture, Government of India, Ms. Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister, Rajasthan, Smt. Pravati Parida, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Odisha, Sh. Suman Berry, Vice Chairperson, NITI Aayog, Sh. Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, Sh. Suman Billa, Additional Secretary and Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Sh. Arun Srivastava, Joint Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Past President, FICCI & CMD, the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, and Dr. Senthil Gopinath, CEO, International Congress and Convention Association and several other global tourism business leaders.
With participation from over 50 countries, GITB 2025 highlighted India’s growing stature as a vibrant and globally competitive tourism destination. Key thematic sessions during the event included: Catalyzing Growth: How tourism policies are shaping MICE opportunities; unlocking India’s MICE Potential: Enhancing convention infrastructure for global appeal, strategizing for Success: crafting effective policies and branding India as a MICE hub.
For the MBA (Tourism & Travel Management) students, the GITB experience proved to be a transformative journey—providing them with real-world insights, direct interaction with industry leaders, and exposure to tourism innovations and global best practices. Their participation in such a high-profile international event marks a significant step in shaping them into future-ready professionals for the fast-evolving tourism industry.
The visit was conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Raman, Head, Department of Tourism & Travel Management and coordinated by Dr. Mahendra Singh and Dr. Bharti Gupta. With active participation in international events like GITB, Central University of Jammu reaffirms its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, industry alignment, and experiential learning empowering the next generation of tourism leaders.
