POONCH: Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal chaired the meeting of District Level Road Safety Committee (DLRSC) meeting today in the Meeting Hall of the DC Office complex. The session focused on a comprehensive review of road safety measures within the district.
Attendees included ADC Tahir Mustafa Malik; Chief Medical Offier, Chief Education Officer, District Informatics Officer NIC, Executive Engineers PWD Poonch, Surankote and Mendhar, Executive Engineer PMGSY, Executive Engineer IFC, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, DySP, Traffic Officials, BRO Officials and other concerned officers.
The committee extensively discussed the implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan, the Road Safety Act, and critical infrastructure enhancements such as the installation of signage boards, traffic signaling, and crash barriers at identified black spots on hilly roads.
DC Kundal inquired in detail about accident data, including fatality reports and high-incident locations, emphasizing the need for a grid-mapped analysis of accident-prone areas. He urged the authorities to intensify efforts in curbing traffic rule violations and to enforce strict penalties against offenders. The Deputy Commissioner also called for extensive awareness campaigns across the district and within educational institutions, urging the Traffic, Motor Vehicle Department and other stakeholders to take an active role.
Furthermore, DC Kundal reviewed the progress of tasks assigned to various departments in previous Road Safety Committee meetings. He directed the installation of necessary signage, the use of speed radar guns, and improvements to road conditions in high-incident areas.
In a stern directive, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the ARTO to compile a list of tractors operating within the district and issue notices regarding strict actions against any illegal mining activities or misuse reported. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to reducing traffic accidents and ensuring the safety of the general public in Poonch.
