KUPWARA: Following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, ADC Kupwara, Mohammad Rouf Rahman today chaired the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting here to deliberate on enforcement of road safety measures and ensuring smooth traffic flow in the district.

The meeting discussed better management of traffic, including identification of black spots, blind spots, improvement of lighting on vital roads, clearance of ROWs, provision of Trauma centre on national highway and other measures pertaining to road safety.

The ADC also took a detailed review about the tasks assigned to different departments during the previous Road Safety Committee meeting. He directed all the members to make coordinated efforts to ensure safety on roads and prompt emergency care.

The ADC stressed upon all the stakeholder departments to be proactive, work in complete synergy and take all required measures to decongest the main towns of the district for smooth flow of traffic. 

He stressed on repairing black spots, initiating remedial measures at blind spots, installation of signage and painting of roads at appropriate spots. The petrol pump dealers were directed not fill oil to the bikers who are not wearing helmet and minor children.

To ensure safety of school children, the private schools were directed to ensure presence of conductor in all their school busses so that the safety of students is ensured while boarding and disembarking the buses.

The CMO was asked to put up proposal for establishment of Trauma Centres at PHC Chowgol and CHC Kupwara. Ex. Engineers of R&B Kupwara and Handwara were directed for macadamization/patching of all important roads of the district so that the people commute smoothly, besides, they were directed to ensure erection of proper road signages at important places.

The ADC also instructed the concerned to increase deployment of police personnel at  Kupwara and Handwara towns to address the issue of traffic congestion. EO Municipal Council  Kupwara was directed to identify two more parking slots at Kupwara town and remove all road side and footpath encroachments on Kupwara Bye-Pass road and hospital road. The meeting was attended by SE R&B, ASP Kupwara, OC BEACON, CMO, CEO, ARTO, Executive Engineers of R&B and other committee members.
