- Seeks waiver upto 250 units for BPL, 300 units for Refugee consumers
JAMMU: Pt Ashok Khajuria, the Convenor of the BJP Sharnarthi Cell (JK), has raised serious concerns over the rampant issue of overcharging and inflated billing in the smart-metered areas under the Sub-division office of the Power Development Department (PDD) in Miran Sahib. This issue, as reported by numerous affected residents, involves the issuance of excessively high power bills, causing significant distress among the local populace.
He highlighted that officials at the PDD Sub-division office in Miran Sahib are reportedly overcharging the public with inflated power bills. When individuals approach the office to complain about these inflated bills, the officials allegedly waive off the charges but harass the complainants by taunting them about their electoral choices, specifically for voting for the BJP.
"This behavior is a blatant violation of the Service Rules and regulations for public servants. Such conduct from officials is unacceptable and goes against the very principles of public service," stated Pt. Ashok Khajuria.
He has called for a thorough investigation into this scandal to uncover any underlying corruption and to hold those responsible accountable. "The harassment and injustice faced by the common public must end. It is imperative to ensure transparency and fairness in the billing process," he added.
Additionally, Pt. Khajuria has demanded a waiver of power bills up to 250 units for Below Poverty Line (BPL) connections and 300 units for refugee families and other lower-middle-class connections. "This measure will provide much-needed relief to the economically weaker sections of society who are already burdened by high living costs," he emphasized.
Pt. Ashok Khajuria urged the authorities to take immediate action to rectify these issues and to implement the necessary reforms to prevent such occurrences in the future.
