JAMMU: St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Prem Nagar organized Good Friday Procession on Friday celebrating the suffering and death of Jesus on the Cross following the gracious tradition of the Catholic Church.
The procession began from Candle Church Chowk at Christian Colony, via Shaheedi Chowk, Residency Road and Vivekanand Chowk the sorrowful enactment and prayerful journey on knees reached St. Peter’s Catholic Church through Jogi Gate Road.
The Annual commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ by the parish faithful depicted the suffering of Jesus through the streets of Jerusalem to Calvary hills. A large number of the faithful participated in the procession dressed in a sorrowful manner, recalling crowds of Jerusalem. As the procession reached the Church, there was a Good Friday service which was conducted by the priests of the community.
Good Friday holds a very important place in the devotions of Christians who make conscious efforts to follow the first Christian community of Jerusalem to suffer with Jesus and offer pains and difficulties for the good of others like Jesus who offered his life on the Cross for the salvation of the entire mankind.
The procession was organized with the supportive help and collaboration of the Police, Traffic and Municipal forces. The onlookers too joined in the suffering of Jesus by their empathetic participation.
