- Prime Minister and Home Minister closely monitor Wayanad flood rescue: MP Khatana
JAMMU: In a heartfelt acknowledgment of the relentless efforts of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, commended the extraordinary rescue operations being carried out in the flood-affected Wayanad district of Kerala. His words of praise came amidst widespread devastation caused by severe flooding, which has wreaked havoc on the region, displacing thousands of residents and causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
In a press statement, Er. Khatana expressed his profound gratitude to the brave personnel of the Indian Army and Air Force who have been tirelessly working to rescue and provide aid to those affected by the floods. “The dedication and bravery exhibited by our armed forces in these challenging times are commendable. Their swift and effective response has saved countless lives and provided much-needed relief to the people of Wayanad,” Khatana remarked.
The senior BJP leader also highlighted the continuous monitoring of the situation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. “Our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, and Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah Ji, are closely monitoring the rescue operations. They have assured full support from the central government to aid the people of Wayanad in these difficult times,” he said. Khatana emphasized that the entire nation stands in solidarity with the people of Wayanad, and every effort is being made to ensure their safety and well-being.
“The floods, triggered by incessant monsoon rains, have led to a critical situation in Wayanad, a picturesque district known for its lush greenery and serene landscapes. The torrential downpours have resulted in overflowing rivers, landslides, and submerged villages, making rescue operations exceedingly challenging”, he said and added, “But, the Indian Army and Air Force, equipped with specialized units for disaster response, have been at the forefront of the rescue mission, deploying helicopters, boats, and ground forces to evacuate stranded residents and deliver essential supplies.”
Er. Khatana lauded the coordination between the central and state governments, as well as the various agencies involved in the relief efforts. “The synergy between the central and state authorities has been exemplary. Together, they are ensuring that relief reaches those in need promptly and efficiently,” he stated.
“The ongoing rescue operations have seen numerous heroic acts by the armed forces, including airlifting stranded individuals from remote and inaccessible areas, setting up temporary shelters, and providing medical assistance to the injured and sick”, the BJP leader said, and added, “The Indian Air Force has conducted multiple sorties to drop food, water, and medical supplies to cut-off regions, while the Indian Army has been instrumental in building temporary bridges and clearing debris to facilitate movement and aid delivery.”
In addition to the government and armed forces, Er. Khatana acknowledged the efforts of local volunteers and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who have been working tirelessly alongside official agencies. “The spirit of unity and selflessness displayed by local volunteers and NGOs is inspiring. Their contribution is invaluable in these testing times,” he said.
As the rescue operations continue, the focus is also shifting towards rehabilitation and rebuilding. Er. Khatana assured that the government is committed to providing all necessary support for the reconstruction of homes and infrastructure, as well as the rehabilitation of the affected families. “We will ensure that Wayanad emerges stronger from this calamity. The resilience and courage of its people, combined with the unwavering support of the nation, will pave the way for a swift recovery,” he concluded.
“The situation in Wayanad remains precarious, but with the concerted efforts of the armed forces, government agencies, and the community, there is hope for a brighter and safer future for the people of this beautiful district”, he added.
