JAMMU: International Forests Day was celebrated by the Management of Rehan Basera Boria Gorkh Nagar, Bahu Fort, Jammu. Important plants such as Neem, Karipatta were planted in the premises of Rehan Basera. This was celebrated to create awareness of the importance of forests. The theme of the International Forests Day 2025 is "Forests and Foods".
In 2025, Forests and Foods is the theme of the day, celebrating the crucial roles of Forests in food security, nutrition and livelihoods. In addition to providing food, fuel, income and Forests support soil fertility, protect water resources and other habitats for biodiversity including vital pollination.
Sham Lal Basson said that key messages of this year's campaign include āForests provide food, medicine livelihood to millions of people, more than two billions people depend on wood and other fuels for cooking, Forests are essential for Agriculture, they support rural income by boosting livelihoods and nutrition. The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations(FAO) estimates that Forests cover one third of the Earth and are one of Nature's great providers of essential functions for the preservation of the planet and life.ā
Those who planted Neem and Karipatta plants included Sham Lal Basson ex-Corporator, Veena Bakshi Manager Rehan Basera, Om Prakash, Rita Sharma, Rajni Devi, Aditya Dutta, Bhawna and Jyoti Devi. Veena Bakshi also spoke on this occasion regarding the importance of forests. She said that we should care for plants. Bodh Raj Sharma, Kamal Gupta, Meena Kamal, Sudesh Sharma, Joginder Kumar also joined the plantation drive.
