RAMBAN: Devraj Thakur, National Joint Secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shakshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), expressed deep concern over the alarming flood situation in Ramban district. In an urgent meeting with the district unit of ABRSM Ramban, Thakur, along with District President Vippan Sharma and General Secretary Dr. Ram Parshad Singh Manhas, appealed to volunteers and the public to actively support ongoing rescue operations across the district.

Expressing solidarity with the flood-affected communities, Thakur said, “We are always with the people affected by this disaster.” He emphasized the Mahasangh’s unwavering commitment to support relief efforts, assist rescue teams, and protect the lives and property of those impacted.

Continuous heavy rainfall in the Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar districts over the last two days has caused large-scale devastation, affecting thousands of residents. With forecasts predicting further rain, the risk of more destruction looms large.

Thakur noted that Ramban and Doda districts are the worst affected, with thousands in dire need of shelter, food, clean water, and essential supplies. He highlighted the seriousness of the situation in Ramban, describing it as “unprecedented,” with hundreds of homes, shops, and vehicles submerged—leading to a massive humanitarian crisis.

He called upon the community, especially ABRSM activists, government officials, security forces, teachers, and volunteers, to intensify their relief efforts. “The generous support of the people can make a significant difference in helping families rebuild their lives,” Thakur said.

Visiting several flood-hit areas, Thakur confirmed the complete closure of the highway due to landslides, mudslides, and stone falls. He advised travellers to avoid non-essential movement until weather conditions improve. The inclement weather has severely damaged roads, bridges, and communication lines, cutting off many remote villages.

Thakur also stressed the urgent need to restore communication and power in affected areas to aid rescue and relief operations. He urged all stakeholders to come together during this crisis and provide immediate and sustained support to those in need.
