JAMMU: Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K joined the global celebration of International Museum Day 2025 at Dogra Art Museum, Jammu. Every year 18th May is celebrated as International Museum Day across the world. The day is observed to celebrate the diversity of our cultural heritage and the efforts being made for the preservation of our tangible and intangible heritage. The Theme for this year’s International Museum Day is “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”.
To mark the occasion, a special exhibition on Basohli Miniature Paintings was organised, showcasing the intricate artistry and historical significance of this unique painting style. The exhibition provided visitors with a rare opportunity to explore the vibrant colours, detailed compositions, and rich heritage of Basohli art, which has long been recognized as an integral part of India’s artistic legacy. The event was organised on the directions of K.K. Sidha, Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K and has further directed for free entry of the visitors to the museums of the Department in J&K for this day.
The event started by way of lightning of traditional lamp by Prof. Poonam Choudhary, Director, Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu, Prof. Vishal Sharma, Dean, School of Social Science, Cluster University of Jammu, Prof. Ranjodh Singh, H.O.D. History, Govt. Degree College, Samba, Prof. Surinder Parihar, H.O.D. History, G.C.W., Gandhi Nagar and Sh. Mukul Magotra, Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Jammu.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Poonam Choudhary from the University of Jammu emphasized the importance of museums in fostering cultural exchange and education. She applauded the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museum’s efforts in curating exhibitions that not only preserve history but also inspire future generations to appreciate and engage with traditional art forms.

By offering free entry, the museum ensured accessibility for all, encouraging a wider audience to participate in the festivities and deepen their understanding of Jammu’s rich artistic heritage. The event is curated and coordinated by Mukul Magotra, Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Jammu under the supervision of Sh. K.K. Sidha, Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K.
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JK BOPEE) today conducted the Common Entrance Test (CET) for GNM/ANM Courses for the academic session 2025-26 at Jammu and Srinagar Centres.
In Kashmir division, the test was conducted at Amar Singh College, KGP Gogji Bagh, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education M A Road and S P College, Srinagar. Likewise, the exam was conducted at Government SPMR Commerce College and GGM Science College in Jammu Division. A total of 2513 candidates appeared in the examination.
To ensure smooth conduct of the entrance test, complete arrangements had been established in collaboration with the respective college administrations and law enforcement agencies under the guidance of Professor Minu Mahajan, Chairperson, J&K BOPEE. The process was conducted under the supervision of competent JK BOPEE staff members and the staff from the respective colleges.
The Chairperson along with the members, Controller of Examinations, Secretary, officials of J&K BOPEE actively monitored the Common Entrance Test at Srinagar & Jammu. They expressed gratitude to the district administration, IGP Jammu/Kashmir for deploying police personnel, members of monitoring squad, Principal, staff members of the respective Colleges for their support during conduct of this prestigious entrance test.
SRINAGAR: On the auspicious occasion of Zeashta Mata Jayanti, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha paid his obeisance to Maa Zeashta Devi, at Zeashta Devi Temple, Zeathyar Srinagar. The Lieutenant Governor sought the blessings of Mata Zeashta and prayed for the well-being of all and peace and prosperity of J&K UT.
The Lieutenant Governor also interacted with the devotees and conveyed his heartiest greetings on the sacred occasion. Members of Zeashta Devi Prabandhak Committee, prominent citizens and people from all walks of life were present.
SRINAGAR: The Annual Training Camp (ATC-2025), organized at the National Training Academy (NTA) Nagrota, commenced today with spirited participation from NCC cadets mostly from the Kashmir region.
The 10-day camp, from 17 May 2025 to 26 May 2025, brings together cadets from Senior & Junior Divisions / Wings (SD &JD) for focused training in physical fitness, leadership, & personality development.
Day One, featured high-energy sapping Physical Training, drill training sessions, aimed at building discipline, synchronization, & unity. It was followed by Live Firing Practice aimed to improve precision and focus.
The day also marked the launch of intercompany-cadet sports competitions in Basketball, Volleyball, & open Gym activities, promoting physical wellness, teamwork, & strategic thinking. The opening day set a vibrant tone for the camp, fostering camaraderie & enthusiasm among the young cadets.
BUDGAM: In a significant move against drug trafficking, Police in Budgam have attached the immovable property of a known drug peddler in Nadigam area of Budgam. The property, a single-storey residential structure built on land measuring 1 kanal and 11 marlas, is located at village Nadigam and belongs to Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Kareem resident of Nadigam Narbal, Budgam. The estimated market value of the property is approximately Rs. 40 lakhs.
This action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with FIR No. 464/2024, registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Budgam. The case pertains to the recovery of a substantial quantity of contraband (Charas) from the possession of the accused.
J&K Police remain steadfast in their commitment to combating drug trafficking and will continue to pursue legal actions, including the attachment and confiscation of properties derived from the proceeds of drug-related activities, as per the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The general public is urged to support this initiative by sharing any information related to drug trafficking with the police. Together, we can work towards a drug-free society.
