SRINAGAR: Prof. H. C. Verma, one of India’s most celebrated physicists and educators, delivered an inspiring address at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday and urged them to look beyond the narrow goals of competitive examinations like JEE and NEET and instead embrace scientific inquiry as a lifelong pursuit.
In his keynote speech, Prof. Verma emphasized the value of curiosity-driven learning over rote memorization. He encouraged students to engage deeply with the fundamentals of Physics and Mathematics, citing unsolved problems in Physics that require fresh and imaginative thinking.
“Real science begins where textbooks end,” he said, stressing the need for innovation and original thought. Prof. Verma also highlighted the pressing environmental challenges facing the world today. He called on the academic community, especially young scientists and engineers to incorporate sustainability into both research and daily practice.
“Water conservation and the responsible use of natural resources should be core concerns in scientific development,” he said. Prof. Verma expressed his gratitude to the Department of Physics for hosting the event and fostering a vibrant academic culture at NIT Srinagar. The session was organized by Prof. M. A. Shah, Dean of Alumni Affairs at NIT Srinagar, who delivered the welcome address. SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, today chaired a high level meeting to review the status of various Information Technology (IT) initiatives being undertaken across departments in Jammu and Kashmir with the active technical support of Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N).
The meeting was attended by Administrative Secretaries of several departments; Commissioner Secretary, IT Department; CEO, JaKeGA; Special Director General, BISAG-N and other senior officers associated with implementation of digital transformation projects in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary took stock of the ongoing IT initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery and improving user interfaces to ensure ease of access for the end users. He acknowledged the critical role of BISAG-N in supporting government’s efforts towards digital empowerment and appreciated their continued collaboration.
Dulloo emphasized the importance of strengthening the synergy between BISAG-N and the UT government, calling for sustained cooperation to achieve new benchmarks in IT infrastructure development and public service delivery. He directed all the concerned departments to proactively share relevant data and information to facilitate timely upgrades and improvements in digital services.
Stressing the need for inter-departmental coordination, the Chief Secretary reiterated that each department should designate a senior officer as a nodal officer to take responsibility for ensuring timely accomplishment of the given tasks. Reviewing establishment of the proposed Centre of Excellence in Emerging Technologies, the Chief Secretary enquired about the progress made, including finalization of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the stakeholders. He called for expediting efforts to operationalize this centre at the earliest.
Among key digital initiatives, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress on rebranding of JK Samadhan public grievance portal (Samadhan 2.0). He also reviewed the integration of KYC and Single Sign-On (SSO) systems across government services; development of a portal for digitization of cadastral maps and revenue records to enable its real-time updation during different land transactions.
He also had appraisal of the launch of a Price Bulletin mobile application, creation of a comprehensive dashboard for the District Good Governance Index and JK Digital Digest of Statistics besides development of Village/Panchayat-level profiling of infrastructure and amenities. The Chief Secretary took notice of the GIS-based land bank initiative being jointly developed by the Revenue, Industries and Forest Departments with technical assistance from BISAG-N to support sustainable developmental and ecological planning.
Upgradations to JKCIP, Kisan Khidmat Ghar and the DakshKisan Portal under the Agriculture Production Department were keenly discussed in the meeting. The progress against each was noted and directions passed for completing the tasks within the set timeline.
Further, the Chief Secretary reviewed the development of a comprehensive MSME Health Clinic for monitoring the vitality of small industries. He also reviewed the development of various digital modules for the Power Development Department (PDD) and Jal Shakti Department to optimize service delivery and resource management;
Regarding the Education department, he asked about the status of e-content development in local languages under PM e-Vidya initiative. Simultaneously, the AI-powered personalised learning tools to assist students in overcoming learning gaps was too given due focus for its early rolling out in the schools.
Other innovative projects discussed included a multi-featured mobile application for the Tourism department, mining surveillance system to curb illegal mining activities; digitisation of MSMEs, Cooperative Banks and Societies and modernization of several other citizen services across the different departments.
JAMMU: Anti Corruption Bureau produced Challan of case FIR No.32/2017 P/S VOJ (now ACB) u/s 5 (1) (d) (c) r/w section 5(2) of J&K P.C Act Svt. 2006 and sections 120-B/467/468/471 RPC before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Doda, against accused persons namely (1) Irshad Ahmed Kichloo S/O Sh. Ghulam Mohd Kichloo R/O Kichloo Mohalla Kishtwar, the then MPW Panchayat Keshwan, (2) Vijay Kumar S/O Sh. Dev Ram R/O Thakrai, Kishtwar, the then Gramin Dak Sevak, Branch Post office Thakrai and (3) Abdul Samad S/O Sh. Mohd Ramzan R/O Nagrana Keshwan, Kishtwar.
The instant case was registered on the basis of a verification conducted into the allegations that one Abdul Samad and Officials of Block Development Office, Kishtwar/Post Office Thakrai, Kishtwar in league with each other have committed large scale bungling since 2009 and managed to open 21 fake accounts in the Post Office, Branch Thakrai without their knowledge and after opening these accounts the officials of BDO office Kishtwar prepared fake invoices and credited/deposited money in these accounts.
Subsequently payment/wages amounting to Rs.4,32,327/- were released in favour of these 21 alleged fake accounts holders which were opened at Post Office Thakeri and remained operational w.e.f. 08/2009 to 04/2012. In this way, the above named accused persons in connivance with each other misappropriated the amount and caused loss to the state exchequer.
SRINAGAR: In a significant stride towards enhancing government-public communication, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo today unveiled the first edition of ‘Info Connect’, a monthly magazine published by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR). The release ceremony was held in the presence of Commissioner Secretary, Information and GAD, M. Raju, and Director, Information & PR, Nitish Rajora.
‘Info Connect’ aims to present a comprehensive account of the developmental milestones, policy initiatives, and noteworthy events shaping the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Designed as a rich repository of authentic information, the magazine offers citizens a window into the evolving socio-economic landscape of the region.
Applauding the initiative, the Chief Secretary hailed the publication as a much-needed platform for disseminating accurate and timely information about the UT. He emphasized that the magazine should not only report government activities but also spotlight key sectors such as tourism, trade, industry, infrastructure, and innovation.
Stressing the importance of regular and consistent outreach, the Chief Secretary advised that the magazine become a permanent feature of DIPR’s public communication strategy. He noted that such efforts bridge the gap between the administration and the people, creating a dependable channel to inform citizens about various schemes, services, and ongoing projects that affect their daily lives.
Commissioner Secretary M. Raju commended the DIPR team for the timely and well-curated publication, calling it a “powerful tool to counter misinformation and portray the true picture of development in the region.” He encouraged the department to ensure continuous improvement in content quality and prompt dissemination to maximize public awareness and impact.
Sharing insights into the magazine’s layout and editorial vision, Director Information & PR, Nitish Rajora, highlighted the magazine’s role in integrating traditional and modern outreach channels to keep citizens informed and engaged. He reiterated the Department’s commitment to using every available platform to build trust and transparency between the government and the public.
The launch of ‘Info Connect’ marks a new chapter in the government’s mission to cultivate an informed and participatory citizenry, reinforcing the values of transparency, inclusivity, and good governance in Jammu & Kashmir.
JAMMU: District Election Officer, Jammu handed over copies of Final Electoral Rolls to the representatives of Political Parties consequent to the successful conclusion of Special Summary Revision, 2025 which was started on 8th April, 2025, in the 77-Nagrota Assembly Constituency with respect to 01.04.2025 as the qualifying date. Further, the public of the Assembly Constituency is informed about publication of the Final Electoral Rolls.
The Revision process was preceded by, rationalization of Polling stations of 77-Nagrota AC resulting in the increase of 5 Polling stations, thus raising the total number of Polling stations to 150 from earlier 145.
The process involved active participation of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), public awareness through SVEEP initiatives, and collaboration with political parties, educational institutions, and civil society groups to reach every eligible voter. It also included awareness through a dedicated van with state of the art facilities provided by the CEO known as “Democracy on Wheel”.
To facilitate maximum participation, four Special Camp Days were organized across all polling stations within the constituency on 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th April 2025. During these camps, eligible electors engaged enthusiastically in the registration process. All operations of the SSR were conducted in a transparent manner which includes meetings with stakeholders and sharing of claims and objections on weekly basis.
The Final Electoral Rolls are now available for public inspection at all Polling Stations in 77- Nagrota Assembly Constituency, Offices of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Assistant EROs and the official website of the CEO J&K “https://ceojk.nic.in”.
DEO Jammu while handing over the copies to the Political parties advised all political parties as well as Electors in general to verify their name in the final list, note their EPIC number, Part number, and Serial number and any person aggrieved with any decision of the ERO can file an appeal to the District Magistrate.
