SRINAGAR: In connection with the completion of Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme of Greater Srinagar under JnNURM, Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Monday conducted an on-site inspection of the 60 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Noorbagh. He inspected the operational readiness of the mega project which is expected to significantly improve drainage for nearly one-third of Srinagar city.
Emphasizing the project's critical role in urban sanitation, he instructed the Zonal Manager of NBCC to accelerate all pending mechanical and electrical works to ensure the plant becomes functional by the end of May.
On the occasion, Div Com also interacted with the local residents and listened to their concerns regarding persistent sewer and storm water issues. He assured them that efforts were being intensified to complete the mega project. Div Com was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, officers of Revenue and UEED departments during the visit.
JAMMU: The Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, successfully organized an interactive Parent Empowerment Program for the parents of children enrolled at Surabhi Nursery School and Day Care Centre. The program aimed to provide parents with practical insights, promote mindful parenting, enhance awareness of child health and development, and strengthen the parent–educator partnership. It focused on empowering parents with knowledge and strategies essential for nurturing healthier families and well-rounded children.
The event began with a warm welcome address by the Head of the Department of Home Science, Prof. Sarika Manhas, who spoke about the critical role of mindful parenting in shaping children’s emotional, physical, and social development. She emphasized that parents are the first role models for their children and that their influence plays a lasting role in how children view themselves and the world around them. The program was held under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Rajni Dhingra, a distinguished academic and expert in the field of Child Development.
The central discussions of the day focused on enhancing parent–child communication, setting healthy boundaries with regard to screen time, promoting nutritious eating habits, and ensuring proper dental hygiene from an early age. These themes were thoughtfully chosen to reflect the realities of modern parenting and to encourage practices that support the holistic well-being of young children.
The program featured insightful sessions by expert resource persons. Sh. Guneet Singh, Parenting Coach, delivered an engaging talk on positive parenting and the importance of emotional connection. Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Chief Medical Officer at the University Health Centre, shared valuable advice on preventive healthcare and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Dr. Gautam Sharma, Dental Officer at the University of Jammu, provided useful tips on oral hygiene and its impact on overall health in children.
Adding further value to the event was the gracious presence of senior faculty members of the department. The staff of Surabhi Nursery School also participated enthusiastically, strengthening the collaborative bond between educators and families. Faculty members from other departments, including Dr. Chinmoye Sharma, Dr. Sarabjeet Kour, and Dr. Priyanka Arya, were also present on the occasion.
A special highlight of the program was a creative and informative display presented by second semester students, under the guidance of Dr. Kanika Gupta. The students showcased cooked tiffin ideas that were healthy, nutritious, and child-friendly, offering parents practical inspiration for everyday meal planning. This exhibit was well-received and appreciated for its creativity, relevance, and practical value.
The Parent Empowerment Program is a signature annual event of the Department of Home Science, reflecting its continued commitment to extending learning beyond the classroom and into the home environment.
KATHUA: Department of Computer Science & IT in association with University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized an expert lecture on the topic “Role of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Future”. The lecture was delivered by esteemed academician Dr. Yashwant Singh, Professor and Registrar at Central University of Jammu.
Dr. Yashwant highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in promoting sustainable development. He detailed real-world applications of AI in areas such as climate modelling, renewable energy optimization, precision agriculture, and smart urban infrastructure. He further emphasized the need to integrate AI solutions to build a greener, more resilient, and sustainable future.
Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU) in his message lauded the initiative of faculty to organize the lecture on such a significant topic. He further emphasized the responsibility of academic institutions in spreading awareness of cutting-edge technologies and fostering a culture of innovation and research among students.
Dr. Rockey Gupta, Principal, UIET inspired students to actively engage with the field of Artificial Intelligence and explore its vast potential in addressing critical environmental challenges. He emphasized that AI-driven solutions can significantly contribute to sustainability and societal well-being, urging young minds to be part of this transformative journey.
At the outset, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, In-charge Head of the MCA Department welcomed the resource person and underscored the growing relevance of AI in addressing modern sustainability challenges. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Bharti Rana. Amit Sharma, Dr. Sunny Sharma, Pranav Ratta, Er. Sandeep Raj, Dr. Vivudh Gupta, Er. Sourav Gupta, Er. Rakshit Khajuria, Er. Puneet Kour, and Er. Jewanjot were also present during the session.
SRINAGAR: Special Summary Revision (SSR), 2025, with reference to 01.04.2025 as the qualifying date, concluded in the two Assembly Constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir, viz; 27-Budgam in district Budgam and 77-Nagrota in Jammu district. The final Electoral Rolls for these two Assembly Constituencies have been published today, by the respective Electoral Registration Officers, in accordance with the schedule notified by the Election Commission of India. The Electoral Rolls have been handed over to the representatives of Political Parties by the concerned DEO and EROs.
As part of pre-revision activities, rationalisation of polling stations of 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota ACs was completed recording an increase of 17 polling stations in Budgam AC and 5 in Nagrota AC, thus raising the total number of Polling stations to 173 and 150 respectively.
The revision exercise involved intensive door-to-door verification and updating by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), focused enrolment drives for young voters (18–19 years), women, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), senior citizens and marginalised groups through multiple awareness campaigns under the SVEEP programme. The initiatives greatly helped in promoting the participation of eligible citizens besides emphasising the commitment of Election Commission towards inclusion of all eligible electors, facilitating smooth conduct of entire electoral process.
The first of its kind, a state-of-the-art mobile van, “Democracy on Wheels,” was made available by the Chief Electoral Officer, UT of J&K, in collaboration with J&K Bank for showcasing the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the voting process, procedures for obtaining EPIC Cards and use of ICT apps such as the Voter Helpline App and C-Vigil. These tools were extensively used by the EROs to create awareness among the citizens, especially in the educational institutions.
The electoral rolls are now available for public inspection in the offices of respective District Election Offices, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers concerned, as well as the polling stations. Besides, online access is also available at the official website of CEO J&K, i.e. https://ceojk.nic.in
The Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir has advised all the electors of Budgam and Nagrota Assembly Constituencies to check their names in the final rolls and report any discrepancy to their concerned ERO/BLO. “In case any person is aggrieved by any decision of the ERO, he/she can file an appeal to the District Magistrate concerned under Section 24(a) of the RP Act, 1950.
The Chief Electoral Officer extended gratitude to all stakeholders including electoral staff, political parties, media, civil society and citizens for their cooperation and active participation in making this special summary revision a success.
SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today conducted the on-site inspection and reviewed ongoing construction work of the Office and Yatri Niwas of Shri Amarnath ji Shrine Board at Pantha Chowk, Srinagar. The Lieutenant Governor ascertained the progress of the work and emphasised on timely completion of the project. He was informed that the construction work of four floors is completed and the rest of the two floors are expected to be completed by the end of the month of June.
The Lieutenant Governor interacted with the officials and directed them to accelerate the progress of identified works for the convenience of pilgrims. The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor and CEO, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board; Shri Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Dr Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar and other senior officials.
