SRINAGAR: In a significant development, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) today formally kickstarted the flagship PM Surya Ghar Yojana in Kashmir Division with the installation of first rooftop solar panels. Er. Fayaz Ahmad Yatoo, became the first beneficiary of a 6 kWp rooftop solar plant at his residence at Rambagh, in Electric Subdivision Chanapora. He is entitled to a Central subsidy of Rs.85,800/- which shall be credited directly into his account.
Managing Director, KPDCL, Mussarat Islam, Chief Engineer Distribution, Er. Sandeep Seth, SE O&M Circle II, Er. Shurjeel Ghani Lala, senior engineering staff besides REC officials and empanelled solar vendor M/S Kashmir Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd. were present on the occasion. In a press statement issued here today, a KPDCL spokesperson said that with onboarding of solar vendors on the National Portal, more beneficiaries shall be covered under the flagship scheme which is set to become a trendsetter in the power sector.
Urging the consumers to come forward and apply for the solar scheme through National Surya Ghar Portal, the spokesperson further stated that no Technical Feasibility Report (TFR) is now required for a solar plant up to 10 kWp, adding the panels shall be installed on rooftops only.
Dwelling upon the details of the subsidy available to the consumers under the scheme, the spokesman said that J&K UT has been categorised as a special category UT with subsidy for residential rooftop solar ranging from 60% of the system cost up to 2 kW & 40% of additional system cost for systems between 2-3 kW capacity. At current benchmark prices, it adds up to Rs.33,000/- subsidy for 1 kWp, Rs.66,000/- for 2 kWp and Rs. 85,800/- for 3 kWp solar rooftop system or higher.
In order to facilitate the beneficiaries and popularize the solar rooftop scheme, KPDCL has a hyperlink available for PM Surya Ghar Yojana on www.kpdcl.jkpdd.net. The spokesman further added that Kashmir DISCOM is continuously holding awareness camps and IEC campaigns so that the scheme is popularized amongst the general public.
SRINAGAR: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today toured Harwan area of district Srinagar, visited the farms of different progressive farmers and interacted with the farming community members of the area. While interacting with the farmers, the Director Agriculture highlighted the importance of an integrated farming system and said that the integrated farming concept being adopted by the farmers has started bearing fruits of success.
He said that the department is working on a strategy where farmers are educated to adopt an integrated approach for their farms so that they could get maximum output in terms of business and profit. Director Agriculture assured the farmers of every possible technical support from the department whenever and wherever they need it.
He said they are working for the transformation of the farming sector, and transformation does not mean increasing productivity only, but socio-economic transformation and empowerment as well. “We are endeavouring to convert our farmer into an agri-preneur,” he added.
Earlier Director Agriculture visited farms of some progressive farmers of Harwan. He also inspected PP Store Harwan and held interaction with the concerned staff. Director Agriculture was accompanied by senior officers of the Department.
SRINAGAR: A review meeting to assess the performance of Circle I was today chaired by Additional Commissioner of the State Taxes Kashmir, Shakeel Maqbool Yatoo, here. The meeting threadbare reviewed the growth, cash positions, sale suppression, e-way bill performance, sector-wise analysis and comparative tax growth vis-à-vis last year's same quarter.
It also held a detailed review of each taxpayer's performance. Individual discussions were held, and several key points were addressed. In the Automobile Sector Growth, the Taxpayers showing growth in the automobile sector were directed to enhance their growth further, considering the closures of other automobile units within the jurisdiction.
Some automobile sector taxpayers cited previous VAT and GST liabilities affecting their current capital position, which led to the Additional Commissioner expressing dissatisfaction with their cash position and instructing the STO to conduct stock checks. Similarly in the case of Works Contractors, the Additional Commissioner sought explanations for the poor revenue performance of works contractors compared to the previous year, with delayed payments from the department for completed projects being a significant factor.
Also in the FMCG Sector, an acknowledgment was given to the good growth in the FMCG sector, as reflected in the tax revenue. However, there was an emphasis on ensuring that this growth is accurately reflected in their returns. The general observations made on the occasion suggested that some automobile sector taxpayers reported sales declines due to customers purchasing from newly opened dealerships in other districts. The Additional Commissioner directed stock checks in these cases.
The Additional Commissioner issued directives in case of E-way Bills, instructing the STO Circle I to address mismatches in inward and outward e-way bills of taxpayers. He also ordered for immediate stock checking, especially in the automobile sector, with a report due within a month.
In case of Tax Evasion, a strict containment of tax evasion was emphasized, with offenders to be dealt with under GST law provisions. He directed STO to submit reports on coal and bitumen from the respective taxpayers in Circle I.

Sales Corporation and JK Engineering Construction Company, among others.
JAMMU: School of Languages, Central University of Jammu in collaboration with Indian Council for Philosophical Research and Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh Prant organized a National Seminar on Advaita Vedanta: Paradigms and Intersectionalities as part of Indian Philosophers Day celebration to mark the birth anniversary of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya on 24 july, 2024.
Prof. R.C. Agnihotri, formerly Vice Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh was the Guest of Honour and Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, CU Jammu was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function.
Prof. Bhavatosh Inder Guru, Head, Department of English, Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh was the keynote speaker. In his address, Prof. Guru dwelt at length about the seminal issues of Advaita Vedanta and underscored the presence of Brahman in each being. Further, Prof. Guru elucidated Adi Shankara’s philosophy which does not discriminate between knowledge and has the core essence of interconnectedness.
Speaking on the occasion, the Guest of Honour, Prof. Agnihotri underlined the continuity of knowledge traditions in India which need to be researched in Indian Universities. Further, Prof Agnihotri complemented the growth trajectory of Central University of Jammu in all dimensions of academics and research.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the role of teachers in the growing era of technological advancement which needs persistent learning, relearning and unlearning. Further, Prof. Jain said India has a glorious tradition of Guru-Shishya Parampara which needs to be carried forward. Speaking on the occasion, the Registrar, Prof. Yashwant Singh highlighted that the university is conducting research in sync with the Indian Knowledge Traditions and Adi Sharakrcharaya’s philosophy is always relevant.
In the welcome address, Prof. Vandana Sharma, Dean, School of Languages highlighted that the Seminar is beginning in the direction of developing and understanding Adi Shankaracharya’s philosophy of Advaita Vedanta among young scholars and researchers. Further, she expressed satisfaction that young scholars and students have presented excellent posters and have shown interest in the theme which requires deep understanding. Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean Research Studies, and Prof. Asif Mantri, Head, Department of Educational Studies evaluated the posters.
Dr. Vijendra presented the vote of thanks and Dr. Vandana Sharma, Dept. of Hindi conducted the proceedings. As part of Vyas Pujan, teachers from University of Jammu, Kendriya Vidyalaya Rahya, Higher Secondary School Rahya and Principal of Jammu Sanskriti School were honoured. Vyas Pujan is one of the key celebrations of Bhartiya Shikashan Mandal celebrated to honour the glorious Indian guru shishya parampara.
AWANTIPORA: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Kashmir today organized an awareness program on Mathematical Olympiad at Mantaqi Memorial Wakf Higher Secondary School-Awantipora.
