JAMMU: “Start-ups require strong industry management linkage for their sustainability”, said Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today. He said institutions like IIM have an important role to play in it.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Orientation Programme for the fresh batch of MBA students of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Jagti on the outskirts of Jammu city, Dr Jitendra Singh said, most of the successful start-up stories have been possible due to strong industry linkages. “For example, in Aroma mission, Government became an enabler by ensuring capacity building of those engaged in agri start-ups in lavender and facilitating the market access to spur sale of Himalayan products like lavender-made perfumes and other products”, he explained.
The Minister said, tapping the Himalayan bio- resources and unexplored minerals along coastal areas can make great value addition to India’s economy and boost ‘AtmaNirbharta’. “India's Coastal States and Himalayan States/UTs like J&K have a lot to offer to the country's future economy”.
Talking about the aspirational generation, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is better times happening under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said Start-Ups are booming, and, as a result, new opportunities are opening. “Technology has been a great leveller so that everybody from every region has an opportunity”, he stated.
The Union Minister said the youth must harness the technology which has created a level-playing field, for societal good. Earlier, technology was a privilege of a few, he pointed out.
Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the students to gear themselves up in order to take the leadership role of India of 2047. “Youth will be the architects of a developed India when it completes the centenary of its Independence in 2027”, he said, adding that the government is making tireless efforts to equip its younger generation with new skills and training and world-class education to mould them into architects of a developed India. “NEP 2020 brought by Prime Minister Modi will contribute to this goal”, he said.
On IIIM-Jammu's progress, Dr Jitendra Singh said, that in just a few years of its establishment, it has risen to become one of the better ones among the new lot of such premiere institutions of higher learning in the country. “Beginning from infancy, when we were finding difficulty even to find faculty, it has come a long way in its small journey”, the Minister said. ''The establishment of IIM Jammu is a significant step towards realizing his dream of providing quality education and producing leaders who will drive the nation towards unprecedented growth and development to achieve the target of Viksit Bharat by 2047”, he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh advocated for forging collaboration and synergy among institutions for greater benefit to their students. “The age of working in silos is over; the era of collaboration is here”, the Minister declared, encouraging IIM-Jammu, AIIMS-Jammu, IIT-Jammu and Central University of Jammu to enter into partnership by inking MoUs on Research and Development and Artificial Intelligence.
Earlier upon his arrival, Dr Jitendra Singh took a tour of the state-of-the-art campus of IIM-Jammu alongside its Director Prof. B.S. Sahay and Director, AIIMS, Jammu, Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta. On the occasion, he planted a sapling.
JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) and the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre (JKSC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and academics related to issues pertaining to Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The MoU aims to foster a partnership between the two organizations, leveraging their expertise and resources to promote scholarly research, academic exchange, and informed discourse on the sociology-economic, legal, historical, environmental, cultural, legal and political dynamics of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The collaboration will focus on various aspects, including history, culture, politics, economy, and social dynamics. The MoU was signed between Prof Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu and Sh Ashutosh Bhatnagar, Director of Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, Prof Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Central University of Jammu and Ajay Sharma, Academic Coordinator of Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre, who expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership and its potential to contribute to a deeper understanding of the region.

The MoU will facilitate joint research projects, seminars, workshops, and conferences, providing a platform for scholars, researchers, and stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and knowledge sharing. Central University of Jammu also committed to bear the expenses of the field work carried out by the research scholars working on the research areas related to Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. Dr Ajay Singh and Mr Jai Bhawani Singh were also present on the occasion.
SRINAGAR: Chhavi Sharma, a promising athlete of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, Jammu and Kashmir, has made the nation proud by securing a bronze medal in the Sabre Girls team event held at the 2024 Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship, Christchurch, New Zealand. The other team members representing the country included Zaferlin from Tamil Nadu, S. Tanvi from Karnataka and Tanishya Singh from Delhi.
Pertinently, KISCE Fencing has been established at M.A Stadium Jammu, where athletes receive regular training under the expert guidance of High Performance Manager, Coaches, and Scientific Staff.
Former Member of J&K Sports Council & International qualified Referee in Fencing, Rasheed Ahmad Choudhary, Senior Fencing Coach JKSC,. Rachna Jamwal, and Fencing Instructor JKSC, Shottu Lal Sharma, applauded the performance of young fencer Chhavi Sharma.
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, congratulated the JKSC athlete and the Indian team contingent, emphasizing that KISCE’s Fencing and Rowing facilities in Jammu and Srinagar respectively are designed to prepare athletes for international competitions. Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, has also conveyed greetings to the athlete.
POONCH: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar and Additional Director General of Police Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, conducted a comprehensive review of the arrangements for the upcoming annual Baba Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024 in Poonch.
The meeting, attended by DDC Chairperson Poonch, Tazeem Akther, Deputy Commissioner Yasin M. Choudhary, DIG Rajouri-Poonch, Tejinder Singh, SSP Yugal Manhas, officers, civil society members, and representatives of religious organisations discussed various aspects to ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner reviewed various arrangements, including security measures, transportation of pilgrims, provisions for langers (community kitchens), medical facilities, sanitation, water and power supply, traffic management, and lodging and boarding facilities for the pilgrims.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch apprised the meeting about the identified locations for accommodating the pilgrims in the district. The Div Com instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure all necessary facilities are put in place to provide a safe and comfortable stay for the Yatris. He stressed the importance of hygienic food, regular water and power supply and improved sanitation at all designated places.
He further asked the medical department to ensure health facilities with adequate deployment of Doctors and paramedics during the yatra. Directions were also issued for illumination of the holy Temple and clean surroundings around the Temple area. The Chief Engineer of PWD was directed to take immediate steps to carry out maintenance of roads leading to the holy Shrine, with the aim of enhancing transportation for the Yatris.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADGP issued directives to SSP Poonch to implement comprehensive security measures. The ADGP stressed the significance of deploying an adequate number of police personnel along the route, fortifying security checkpoints, and maintaining strict vigilance at all times.
Thereafter, Div Com and the ADGP also chaired a meeting with civil society members, religious heads for the smooth conduct of Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra. The Civil society members apprised various points and demands. The Div Com and ADGP assured redressal of all the genuine issues.
The President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad informed the schedule of the yatra, including the opening on August 6th, the arrival of the first batch of pilgrims from Jammu to Poonch on August 7th, and the final batch reaching Mandi on August 15th. The yatra is scheduled to end on August 16, with the Chhari Yatra taking place on August 17th.
Representatives from various departments, including Police, Traffic, Health, Public Works Department (PWD), Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL), and Jal Shakti, Executive Engineers along with members from Baba Budha Amarnath Management committee and Buda Amarnath Yatri Niwas, participated in the meeting.
JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu inaugurated the Leadership/Management Development Program for Elected Representatives and Officials of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of Jammu & Kashmir. The three-day program, held from July 15 to 17, 2024, aims to equip participants with advanced management and leadership skills essential for effective governance and administration.
The inaugural ceremony, held at the Aryabhatta Classroom, Ground Floor, Academic Block, commenced with the lighting of the inaugural lamp at 9:00 AM, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of knowledge and wisdom. Participants formally introduced themselves, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among the attendees
Dr. Manu Bansal, the Program Director, IIM Jammu delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the program, highlighting its objectives and expected outcomes. Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE &C), IIM Jammu stated that their training programs are designed to be uniquely impactful, focusing on essential aspects such as village planning, development, and resource mobilization. He emphasized that these modules are not just theoretical; they provide practical knowledge that can be directly applied to improve rural communities.
Shri Sham Lal, Director, Panchayati Raj, J&K, mentioned that addressing the field challenges in rural development and Panchayati Raj is imperative. He highlighted the need to unite and work diligently to achieve significant progress in villages over the next 20-30 years. He firmly believes that programs like this are pivotal in bringing closer to development goals by equipping participants with the right knowledge.
Shri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, IAS, Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Local Self Government, J&K, (Joined Online) noted that data and analytics play a crucial role in formulating effective policies and facilitating informed decision-making. He also stressed the importance of financial management and project management. He commended the experienced faculty at IIM Jammu for their readiness to assist in mastering these vital skills. He also shared his insights on the critical role of PRIs in grassroots governance and the importance of effective leadership.
Present on the occasion was Ms. Sheetal Pandita, Deputy Secretary to Govt J & K was also present on the occasion. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vedika Saxena, Program Director, IIM Jammu. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem, fostering a sense of patriotism and unity among all attendees.
