JAMMU: An FIR has been registered against an individual for illegally interfering and participating in the official work of the Revenue Department. The district administration Jammu has taken swift action, lodging an FIR and sending a strong message against corruption.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya, has issued a stern warning against anyone who attempts to interfere or influence the fair and routine functioning of the department's work.
The DC's warning comes after taking cognizance of the individual for trying to illegally influence the department's decisions in Niabat Channi Rama. He has directed the Revenue Department to ensure that all work is carried out in a transparent and fair manner, without any external pressure or influence.
SRINAGAR: The District Administration Srinagar on Sunday granted permission for 8th Muharram procession through the traditional route from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A Road.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat vide No. DMS/JUD/Muharram/2024/786-793, dated 14.07.2024, stated that after considering the Shia leaders application about allowing the Muharram processions through traditional routes, Government has decided to allow the processions on 8th Muharram.
The order reads that "Whereas, an application was received from Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee seeking permission for taking out Muharram procession on 8th Muharram-1446 from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A Road, Srinagar".
The order added that "Whereas, the matter was taken up with the Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar vide this office No. DMS/Jud/Muharram/2024/596-597dated: 05-7-2024 for comments".
The order further stated "Whereas Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar vide No. CS/45-2024,/48172-74 Dated: 14.07.2024 has conveyed NO OBJECTION in favour (Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee) for taking out Muharram procession on 8th Muharram-1445 from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A Road, Srinagar subject to various conditions like no activity during the procession should be prejudicial to the security and sovereignty of the state and should not disrespect any national symbol/emblem. That they shall not hoist any flag depicting provocative slogans /text and / or photos of terror outfits, logos of banned organizations at both national and international.
That the organizers shall abide by all the rules and regulations and shall not indulge in any activity which may led to law and order problem in the area. That activities of the participants attending the procession should remain strictly confined to the programme only. That they shall cooperate with local police and other security agencies as desired by them in the public interest.
The DMs order also reads, "Keeping in view the above, the permission is hereby Granted in favour of Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee, Kaloo Manzil Mohalla Guru Bazar for taking out Muharram procession on 8th Muharram-1446 from Guru Bazar to Dalgate. via Budshah Kadal and M.A Road, Srinagar from 6:00 am to 8:00 am on 15th July, 2024".
The time window has been finalized in the larger public interest as the procession route encompasses massive business / commercial establishments, movement of ambulances, students, office staff,general passengers, etc". the order also added.
The various prominent Shia organisations have hailed the decision of the Government to allow 8th Muharram procession. They have said that this Jaloos of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S holds utmost significance for the Shia community and Government has respected their sentiments.
SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, today held a meeting with the Tourism Development Authorities (TDAs) of the UT to take appraisal of their functioning, revenue generation and facilities being extended to the visitors. Present in the meeting were Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Director Tourism, Jammu/Kashmir, CEOs of Development Authorities besides other concerned officers while Jammu based officers participated virtually.
The Chief Secretary took serious notice of the violations happening in tourist destinations in terms of illegal constructions or that of the Master Plan. He stressed on the concerned authorities to have close vigil over their jurisdictions for strict enforcement of rules and necessary action against the violators. He also directed for demarcation of lands coming under their jurisdictions forthwith to ensure zero violations in these areas.
Dulloo also took note of the status of Master Plans for each of the TDA. He asked to make updations in the plans wherever required and draft new ones in consultation with the concerned Chief Town Planner.
Regarding revenue sector, the Chief Secretary impressed upon the officers to take measures for outsourcing of their assets for revenue generation and their upkeep. He simultaneously asked for having a monitoring mechanism in place to ensure that all these assets are properly looked after by these private players.
While asking about provisioning of amenities to the tourists, the Chief Secretary impressed upon the officers to create the necessary infrastructure for sanitation of these areas. He asked about the availability of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) there besides the status of treatment of solid waste in these tourist spots. He called for ensuring proper management of these locations by creating best of the sanitation facilities, road, power, water and mobile network connectivity there.
Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Yasha Mudgal, gave overview of the mandate and objectives behind the establishment of these Tourism Development Authorities in different areas of J&K. She also threw light on their functioning and the issues faced by each of them in terms of policy or human resource requirements.
She assured that a substantial progress would be made both on enforcement side and that of demarcation of areas under each of the authority in next one month. She said that the process of outsourcing of assets would be focused upon to culminate it within a specific timeline.
The concerned Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of these TDAs detailed out the areas under their jurisdictions by virtue of different notifications issued by the government from time to time. They also briefed the meeting about status of Master Plans in vogue there and the need of their updation or modifications.
Moreover, the concerned CEOs threw light on the kind of assets present in each TDA. They apprised the meeting about their current usage and the plans of their outsourcing for increasing the footfall of tourists, creation of facilities for night stay and carrying out of other tourism related activities there.
The development authorities reviewed today included Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Patnitop, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri, Bhaderwah, Surinsar-Mansar, Bani-Basholi, Lolab-Bangus, Aharbal, Kishtwar, Kokernag, Poonch, Rajouri, Tosamaidan, Shopian-Peer kind Gali, Wullar-Manasbal, Billawar-Duggan, Verinag, Yusmarg besides one created for maintenance and development of Hygam Ningli in Baramulla district.
Pertinent to mention here that these development authorities have been established in terms of Jammu and Kashmir Development Authority Act. The three premier authorities including Patnitop Development Authority, Pahalgam Development Authority and Gulmarg Development Authority are being chaired by the Lieutenant Governor while the Chief Secretary is the Chairman for rest of the eighteen authorities.
SRINAGAR: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today remarked that Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an unprecedented growth and development due to significant initiatives undertaken by Government of India and present LG led Administration.

Addressing the gathering of industrialists, business professionals and other stakeholders, Advisor Bhatnagar said that Jammu & Kashmir is poised for a significant industrial transformation. “We have focused on improving infrastructure, ensuring ease of doing business and fostering innovation. Our goal is to make J&K an attractive destination for industries ranging from manufacturing to information technology”, Advisor said.
He outlined various strategic plans for industrial development in J&K and reflected about government’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment and various incentives available for investors. The Advisor further said that the successful implementation of government schemes is transforming our industrial landscape, fostering a robust ecosystem that is poised for sustained economic progress.
Addressing the gathering, Director General, Union Ministry of Tourism, Manisha Saxena, emphasized on the untapped potential of J&K’s tourism sector. She highlighted several key initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and attracting both domestic and international tourists. “Jammu & Kashmir is a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Our focus is on creating a tourism ecosystem that preserves this heritage while providing world-class facilities for visitors. We are working on enhancing infrastructure, promoting adventure tourism, and ensuring safety and security for tourists,” she said.
The Director General also encouraged industry stakeholders to invest in tourism-related projects, noting that public-private partnerships are crucial for the region’s tourism development. She underscored the importance of community involvement and development of local skills to ensure that the benefits of tourism reach every corner of J&K.
Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Vikramjit Singh in his address provided an overview of significant investments in the Union Territory. He highlighted key initiatives in the region’s focus sectors and presented the status of government schemes like Gati Shakti Programme and PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). He also spoke about current industrial ecosystem and industrial landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairman, CII Northern Region, Madhav Singhania and Deputy Chairman, CII Northern Region, Sunjay Kapur also spoke on the occasion. They remarked that today’s insightful discussions at CII’s Industry interaction has provided a clear roadmap for J&K’s industrial and tourism development. They added that he collaborative spirit and forward-thinking strategies presented by the eminent government speakers are set to revolutionize J&K’s industry landscape.
Pertinently, today’s interaction facilitated a constructive dialogue between government representatives and industry members, addressing key challenges and opportunities in J&K. The discussions covered a range of topics including investment opportunities, infrastructure development, tourism and skill enhancement.
SRINAGAR: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency, (ERA), Aijaz Asad, today chaired a meeting to review progress on various flagship sub projects being executed under the World Bank funded Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project in the region.
While assessing work progress on the state of art EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) being constructed under JTFRP at an estimated cost of Rs 40.16 crore, the CEO was informed that most of the civil works including construction of main building, service building, dormitory building have been completed. Besides, construction of internal roads, boundary walls around the complex and installation of electrical poles has also been done while construction of fire fighting tank and other ancillary works is in progress.
The CEO directed the executing agency to immediately take up the work on installation of HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) system in the building and simultaneously accelerating other activities under the prestigious sub-project to ensure its timely completion.
Pertinently, the State of Art Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) building at Ompura Budgam is being constructed under the component of Strengthening of Disaster Management Capacity of JTFRP which comprises of Main Control Building with G+1 floor, Service Block, Dormitory Building for NDRF & SDRF personnel, Recreation and large sized warehouse which will be used for stocking of various relief and rescue equipments and essential food commodities.
Later, Aijaz Asad reviewed progress on construction of 160 bedded additional block at Bone and Joint, hospital, Barzulla being constructed at a cost of Rs 103.27 crore. The CEO was informed that work on the sub-project is in advanced stage while installation of lifts, construction of connecting corridor between the old and new hospital buildings, other ancillary work on the main building is in full swing.
Aijaz Asad directed the R&B (PWD) to further expedite the pace of work on the sub project ensuring its completion within the stipulated timeline. While briefing the CEO about the progress on construction of additional block at GDC, Bemina, the SE R&B, (PWD) informed that work on installation of lifts in the building and other minor ancillary works is being given further push to ensure earliest completion of the sub-project.
The CEO directed the engineers to meticulously monitor the progress of work on all the works being executed under the World Bank funded JTFRP to ensure that these are completed within the stipulated project deadline. He also directed for strict monitoring of quality parameters of these vital works.
Present in the meeting were Rakesh Mahajan, Director, Technical, JTFRP, Dr Altaf Kawoosa, Medical Superintendent, Bone & Joint Hospital, Barzulla, Sushil Kumar, Project Manager, JKERA, Mushtaq Ahmad, SE, R&B (PWD) Central and other senior officers of J&KERA, R&B (PWD) and Health Department.
