JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu concluded the Valedictory Ceremony of the Immersion Program for ITS Students today at Room No. 268, Dharma, Vedanta-MDP Centre, Jagti Campus. The ceremony commenced with a welcome address, setting an enthusiastic tone for the evening. Present during the valedictory ceremony was Prof. Sunil Kr Pandey, Director, ITS Ghaziabad, Dr. Mahesh Gadekar, Member, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu.
Also present were Program Directors, Dr. Shreya Rastogi, Dr. Garima Maurya and Dr. Sumit Maheswari, IIM Jammu. The program consisted of 30 student participants. Representing I.T.S Ghaziabad were Prof. Vaijayanti Anand and Prof. Shivoham, who extended their support and encouragement to the participating students
The event also witnessed the distribution of certificates to the participants, marking the culmination of the program. The ceremony culminated with the National Anthem, reflecting the spirit of unity and pride among all present. The Immersion Program at IIM Jammu was designed to provide the ITS students with a transformational learning experience, bridging academic learning with real-world applications.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) has initiated the process of demolishing all illegal structures constructed in the Rakhe-e-Arth resettlement colony. Accordingly, an anti-encroachment drive was conducted today during which boundary walls and plinths of two structures, being constructed at Rakhe-e-Arth resettlement colony were demolished by the enforcement wing and engineers of the LCMA.
It is worth mentioning that the Rakhe-e-Arth resettlement colony has been established by the government for rehabilitation of Dal dwellers only. As on date around 1806 plots have been allotted to such Dal dwellers, who had shifted from the lake and have been paid compensation for acquisition of their structures and land in the lake by the LCMA.
However, it has been brought to the notice of LCMA that some notorious persons have illegally occupied some plots on the basis of fake documents or have occupied the plots without having any authorisation from the LCMA. It has also been observed that some persons, who are actually residents of different districts of Kashmir are also residing in Rakhe-e-Arth resettlement colony, which as per LCMA needs immediate attention.
It is being clarified to all that the Rakhe-e-Arth resettlement colony has been established for Dal dwellers only and nobody other than Dal dwellers has any right to purchase the land there or use any means to stay in the colony. The LCMA warns all such individuals, who are befooling the general public and selling the plots on the basis of fake promises and fake documents, of dire consequences in future.
Meanwhile, anti encroachment drives shall continue, and all such plots and structures which have been raised on the basis of fake documents or without any valid authorisation will be raised to ground. The LCMA has collected all the information and the process of cleaning has been set into motion.
JAMMU: The Dance Department of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, celebrated World Dance Day with great enthusiasm, artistry, and a deep sense of homage to India's rich cultural traditions. The celebration was graced by Prof. Meena Sharma, Chief Guest and Chairperson of Utsaah–The Clubs, University of Jammu; Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu; Prof. Sohaib Malik, Principal, IMFA; and Dr. Naseeb Singh Manhas.
The programme began on an emotional note, as a tribute was paid to Padma Vibhushan Guru Kumudini Lakhia, honoring her lifetime contribution to Kathak. Her recent passing at the age of 93 left an indelible void in the world of Indian classical dance.
The celebrations commenced with a soulful Tarana presented by students trained under Saba Majid, an alumna of the Dance Department. The second-semester students Pragya, Akshita, and Radhika captivated the audience with a unique Dogri-Kathak fusion, blending regional flavor with classical finesse. This was followed by an impressive Kathak performance on Bandish by the final-year students, winning wide appreciation.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of a Tarana by Saba and Ritika, composed and sung by none other than Pt. Birju Maharaj and choreographed by Dr. Priya Dutta, Head of the Dance Department, IMFA. Their performance was a heartfelt tribute to the Kathak legend.
In her address, Prof. Meena Sharma praised the Dance Department for its outstanding efforts in promoting artistic excellence. She highlighted how initiatives like these not only foster creativity among students but also deepen their connection with India's rich cultural heritage. Applauding the leadership of Dr. Priya Dutta, she encouraged the department to continue providing vibrant platforms for young artists to express and evolve their talents.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu, congratulated the department on successfully organizing a memorable event. He lauded the faculty’s dedication to nurturing young talent.
Dr. Naseeb Singh Manhas also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of such cultural engagements in preserving heritage and inspiring future generations. He encouraged more innovative explorations in the fusion of classical and regional art forms. Earlier, Prof. Sohaib Malik, Principal, IMFA, delivered the welcome address, congratulating the Dance Department for the splendid organization of the event and acknowledging the hard work of the students and faculty members.

JAMMU: Twenty existing entrepreneurs successfully completed a one-week Management Development Programme (MDP) orientation training conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), Jammu, under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme. The programme was inaugurated by Sher Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu.
The MDP aimed to enhance entrepreneurial skills, business management, and sustainable practices. Key sessions covered the RAMP Scheme, Entrepreneurship Opportunities in J&K, and Government Sponsored Schemes such as Mudra, Start-up India, Stand-Up India, ASPIRE, PMEGP, ZED, LEAN, and SC/ST Hub initiatives.
Participants engaged in activity-based learning on SWOT Analysis, Supply and Demand, Marketing Strategy, and Business Simulation. Expert sessions by CA Shubham Gupta focused on GST, CGTMSE, Book Keeping, Working Capital Management, Break Even Analysis, and Risk Management through Insurance. Compliance and registration procedures were also discussed.
A field visit to industrial units was organized in association with Lalit Mahajan, Chairman, Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), offering practical insights into manufacturing operations. Other modules included Project Report Preparation, Leadership and Decision-Making, Branding, Packaging, Marketing, and Digital Marketing for Business Promotion.
The programme was coordinated by District Nodal Officer, JKEDI Jammu, Rajesh Kotwal with support from the course team comprising Monika Salaria, Rupali Choudhary and Humera Nazir. The MDP’s successful completion highlights JKEDI’s commitment to nurturing a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
AWANTIPORA: Islamic University of Science and Technology inaugurated a week-long "Training of Trainers" programme aimed at advancing expertise in Optical Fibre Communication technologies. The programme, organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in collaboration with the Kalam Academy of Skill and Training (KAST), was formally launched by Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor.
The intensive skilling initiative is designed to upskill trainers and professionals in crucial areas such as fusion splicing mastery, advanced connectorization and termination techniques, setup and management of Optical Distribution Frames (ODFs), patching methodologies, and various other critical domains of optical fibre technology. Eminent external experts from academia and industry will deliver hands-on sessions and lectures throughout the week, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo underlined IUST's strategic vision of transitioning into a Skill, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship-oriented university, aligning with the evolving needs of the global economy. He said that there is an ever-growing demand for highly skilled human resources in emerging sectors, and IUST is proactively responding to this challenge. By establishing Centres of Excellence such as C4I4 (Centre for Industry 4.0), with support from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, we are preparing our students and professionals to contribute effectively to the capital goods industry.
Prof. Romshoo further highlighted the achievements of the Kalam Academy of Skill and Training, under which over 4000 youth have been trained in 32 job roles across six sector councils. He stressed the importance of fostering innovation from early stages of education, urging faculty members and researchers to integrate undergraduate and postgraduate students into live research projects. If we aspire to compete globally, we must identify and nurture talent early, involve students in innovation ecosystems, and encourage the development of cutting-edge technologies, he asserted.
Speaking at the event, Prof. A. H. Moon emphasized the university’s commitment to making skill development accessible to all, highlighting the innovative "Skilling on Wheels" initiative. This outreach programme brings skill courses directly to schools and colleges across the region, offering on-site training in emerging technologies. He said that our aim is to familiarize students with the latest advancements, nurture curiosity, and instill a passion for innovation from a young age.
Dr. Kaiser Javid Giri, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SoET), elaborated on IUST’s broader mission to create a strong skilling ecosystem that complements academic education with industry-relevant competencies. He emphasized the university's role as a critical driver in bridging the gap between education and employability.
Dr. Faroze Ahmad, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and the convenor of the programme, thanked the participating experts and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to delivering high-quality training and capacity-building programmes.
The Training Programme is being coordinated by Dr. Zahid Gulzar Khaki, along with his team comprising Dr. Liyaqat Nazir (Coordinator, KAST) and Dr. Aasif Bashir Dar. The proceedings of the inaugural session were moderated by Dr. Shaiqa Nasreen, while the formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Asifa Mehraj Baba, Dean of Students.
