SRINAGAR: Continuing its intensified Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns under the drugs free Jammu & Kashmir initiative, the District Administration Srinagar today organized awareness programme at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Gund Hassibhat. The awareness programme was held on the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat to raise awareness about the illicit impacts of the drugs on the individuals, their families and the society.
The event witnessed active participation from officials representing the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Departments of Education, Health, Excise, Social Welfare and other concerned. School staff and students also took part in the programme.
During the programme, speakers highlighted the importance of collective community responsibility in addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse. They urged the youth to channel their energy into constructive and developmental pursuits. Students pledged to become active change-makers and advocates for a drug-free society within their own communities.
KATRA: The School of Mechanical Engineering at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), successfully organized a two-day workshop on “Innovations in Tribology and Robotics” on April 21st and 22nd, 2025. In the era of smart manufacturing and intelligent systems, these domains play a transformative role across industries such as automotive, aerospace, biomedical engineering, and industrial automation.
The event featured two distinguished experts Prof. Shakti K Gupta and Dr. Manjesh Kumar, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.Prof. S.K Gupta delivered a session on Robotics and Industrial Applications while Dr. Manjesh spoke about the material and tribological aspects of Robotics. The talks were followed by interactive Q&A segments, which sparked lively discussions among participants, including faculty members, research scholars, and students.
Further, a panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Ankush Raina on the future of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, which saw active participation from Dr. YatheshthAnand, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Shashi B. Kotwal and Mr. Swastik Gupta from the School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr. Prabhu Omar (School of Electrical Engineering ), Dr. Vipal Sharma (School of Computer Science Engineering ) The panel emphasized emerging AI trends, the integration of intelligent systems in robotics, and the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The workshop was jointly coordinated by Dr. Mir Irfan UlHaq (Associate Professor, SME) and Dr. Ankush Raina (Assistant Professor, SME). The event was attended by UG, PG and PhD students of various schools. Dr. Pradeep Singh (Assistant Professor, SME) also participated in the various discussions. The organizers thanked SMVDU administration and Vice Chancellor Prof. Pragati Kumar for providing the opportunity and providing all support to organize the event.
Pertinently , SMVDU announced that starting from the upcoming academic year, the university will offer a B. Tech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. This new undergraduate program is set to equip students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in the rapidly growing fields of robotics and AI, opening up numerous career opportunities in advanced technology sectors.
KATRA: Bachelor of Design students from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, Today visited the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Delhi as part of an Educational Visit aimed at imparting industry exposure to Students of Bachelor of Design.
The visit was organized under the guidance of Prof.Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, and was coordinated by Prof.AnkushAnand, Coordinator, B.Design Program at SMVDU. During the visit, the students explored cutting-edge Packaging Technologies and Sustainable practices, gaining valuable insights into the real-world applications of their classroom learning. It is worth to mention here that SMVDU started B.Design Program, Last Year.
The Team B.Design also had interactive sessions with Research and Development Experts of IIP Delhi and some industry experts, which broadened their understanding of current trends and innovations in Design and Development of Packaging products and Processes. Prof.AnkushAnand, Coordinator B.Design Program, SMVDU emphasized the importance of such industry-academia linkages in preparing students for professional challenges.
Prof.Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU lauded the initiative, encouraging students to actively engage with industry practices to enrich their academic experience through Design and called upon students to take up some projects based on real life Design problems and their solutions. The visit served as a major step toward bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application for budding designers at SMVDU.
SRINAGAR: A Delegation of Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) led by Dr Anshu Kataria, President, PUCA, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh met Sakina Itoo Education Minister; Jammu and Kashmir at UT Guest House, Chandigarh Today.
Dr. Kataria expressed gratitude to Minister Sakina Itoo for requesting the Governor and Chief Secretary of Punjab to provide a special opportunity for J&K students to appear in exams when the situation stabilizes. It is to be mentioned that IKGPTU has issued a special notification (No. IKGPTU/COE/194) regarding the postponement of exams due to the Pahalgam incident.
JAMMU: BJP J&K General Secretary and former MLC Vibodh Gupta, while addressing party workers after listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat, reiterated the Centre’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace, prosperity, and democracy in Jammu & Kashmir. He lauded the Prime Minister’s efforts in ridding the Union Territory of terrorism and separatism and establishing a development-oriented governance model.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a deep emotional connection with the people of Jammu & Kashmir. His visionary leadership has steered the Union Territory away from the shadows of terrorism and towards a future filled with opportunity, stability, and growth,” said Vibodh.
Referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Vibodh strongly condemned the act, calling it a sign of desperation by the forces opposed to peace. “The cowardly attack is a reflection of the frustration of those who patronize terror. As schools, colleges, and democratic institutions in the Valley begin to thrive, and as tourism and youth employment rise, these enemies of progress are trying to disrupt the peace. But they will not succeed,” he asserted.
Vibodh also emphasized that the Government’s consistent efforts have led to significant improvements in the lives of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, citing the increased infrastructural developments, educational advancements, and the empowerment of the youth. He reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to ensuring that the dreams of the people of Jammu & Kashmir are fulfilled and that terrorism finds no space in the Union Territory’s future.
