JAMMU: A five day photo exhibition titled “Trinity: A Group Show” featuring the works of five leading photographers begin today at Kala Kendra, Jammu. The exhibition is being jointly organised by Kala Kendra Jammu and Aperture, the Jammu Photography Club, in the cherished memory of Chandan Bhadram Shastry, a legendary figure in the field of photography.
The exhibition showcased 45 exceptional works by renowned photographers; Chandan Sunder, Mohammad Anwar Al Nasir, Shishupal, Professor Ashok Kumar and Amarjeet Singh Jandhu, reflecting the diverse themes, artistic perspectives and technical brilliance. Principal Secretary, Culture, B M Sharma inaugurated the exhibition.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra Jammu; R.K. Goyal, President, Aperture, the Photography Club and Professor Ashok Kumar graced the presidium. Addressing the gathering, the Principal Secretary expressed deep appreciation for the powerful and evocative photographs on display. He commended the participating photographers for capturing the moments that reflect emotion, culture and storytelling through their lenses.
He also announced several cultural initiatives by the Department of Culture, including a new Cultural Award scheme to honour the contributions of photographers, painters, sculptors, authors and researchers. He also revealed plans to establish a dedicated Photography Gallery on the first floor of Kala Kendra, envisioned as a permanent platform for photographers to showcase their creativity.
In his welcome address, Mohammad Anwar Al Nasir introduced the concept behind “The Trinity: A Group Show”. He highlighted the ongoing efforts and initiatives of Aperture in promoting photography as an art form in the region. Dr. Javaid Rahi, in his remarks, stated that the main objective of the exhibition is to encourage amateur photographers and enthusiasts to learn and grow through such curated experiences. He informed that live demonstrations on camera handling, framing angles, image mixing and creative compositions would be held during the exhibition, offering valuable learning for the photography lovers.
On the occasion, Aperture honoured several eminent photographers for their significant contribution. These included R.K. Goyal, Afzal Shah, Channi Anand, Surjit Singh, Rakesh Bakshi, Rajinder Kitchloo, Pawan Chowdhary, Ashwani Saberwal and Parveen Sharma. The event was also attended by distinguished guests, artists including Balwant Thakur, Dr. Lalit Gupta, K.B. Jandial, Dr. Raj Kumar, O.P. Sharma, Jang S. Verman, Baljeet Raina, S. Bajral and others. The exhibition will remain open in all the galleries of Kala Kendra till 22nd April.
SRINAGAR: In its relentless efforts to dismantle the terror-ecosystem, Srinagar Police has attached a vehicle belonging to a terrorist associate under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).
A motorcycle bearing registration number PB17A-3362 (Chassis No. 379870, Model year 2007), in the possession of an individual namely Fahad Bashir Siddiqui son of Bashir Ahmed Siddiqui resident of Akilmir Khanyar, has been attached by Srinagar Police.
This decisive action has been carried out under Section 25 of the UAPA, as part of ongoing investigations linked to case FIR No. 55/2021 registered in Police Station MR Gunj. Notices prohibiting the sale, transfer, or rental of the attached vehicle under legal procedures have been duly served in accordance with the law.
The attachment was executed by a duly constituted police team in full compliance with the laid down legal procedures. Srinagar Police remains committed to acting firmly against those involved in or supporting unlawful and terror-related activities.
KATRA: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has once again showcased it sacademic prowess with three students qualifying in the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. The students from the School of Architecture and Landscape Design have secured impressive ranks in the Architecture and Planning (AR) paper. Mr. Anirudh Gupta and Mr.Prajjwal Kumar Chaudhary, both 4th-year students, have achieved remarkable All India Ranks of 305 and 322, respectively.
Ms. Samiksha Kushwaha, a 5th-year student, has also qualified with an All India Rankof 1729.What's noteworthy is Mr. Prajjwal Kumar Chaudhary's consistency, having qualified in GATE last yearwith an All India Rank of 930 while in his 3rd year. This achievement is a testament to the dedication andhard work of the students of the School of Architecture & Landscape Design at SMVDU.
The students' GATE scores, valid for three years, will make them eligible for assistantships from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, when they pursue postgraduate programs at top institutions like IITs, NITs, SPAs, and other central or state/private institutions. Their mentor and Faculty GATE coordinator of Architecture, Ar. Vinod Kumar, expressed pride in theirachievement, expecting them to inspire their juniors.
The students are highly motivated to improve theirranks and aim to secure the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) through good ranks andresearch work with academic excellence. The Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof. Pragati Kumar, Head of the School of Architecture, Ar. AbhineyGupta, and other faculty members congratulated the students on their success, wishing them continued excellence in their academic pursuits. AWANTIPORA: The Department of Islamic Studies, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a program on Future of Islamic Studies in Light of NEP-2020 with the aim to explore the evolving landscape of Islamic Studies within the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with special emphasis on the newly launched Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in Islamic Studies.
Delivering the keynote remarks, Prof. Ayaz Hassan Moon, Dean Academic Affairs, IUST, stressed the need for adopting innovative pedagogies that resonate with contemporary societal needs and enhance the academic relevance of Islamic Studies. The session was chaired by Dr. Afroz Ahmad Bisati, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, who called for the promotion of the FYUGP and urged for dynamic curriculum development and active student engagement.
The panel featured scholars including Prof. Hamid Naseem Rafibadi, who advocated for international research collaborations and reinforced the need to expand outreach with affiliated colleges. Prof. G.N. Khaki, Director, International Centre of Spiritual Studies at IUST, emphasized preserving the spiritual core of Islamic Studies in academia, while Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Bhat highlighted the significance of integrating spiritual expressions such as Tawseef into scholarly explorations.
Dr. Showkat Hussain, Head, Department of Islamic Studies, underscored the importance of strengthening outreach efforts and establishing strategic collaborations with institutions like the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) to enhance research funding and academic growth. The program sessions were moderated by Dr. Sheikh Jamil Ali and Dr. Ali Mohammad, and Dr. Riyaz Ahmad proposed the vote of thanks.
Another highlight of the program was a panel discussion on enhancing the relevance of Islamic Studies, exploring career pathways for graduates, and aligning academic curricula with societal and policy transformations.
JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the week-long Mega Surgical Camp, at Doda and Kishtwar. Camp at 3 different locations- Associated Hospital of GMC Doda, District Hospital Kishtwar & SDH Bhaderwah, being organised by Rotary International in collaboration with District Administrations of Doda & Kishtwar and Department of Health & Medical Education, will witness superspeciality and general surgeries by specialized and experienced Doctors in different fields.
Addressing the gathering at SDH Bhaderwah during the inaugural ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor extended his felicitations to members of Rotary International, officials of District Administrations, and Health & Medical Education Department, Doctors, Nursing Staff, volunteers and everyone associated with the noble endeavour.
“Health for All is top priority for me and J&K administration in the past few years has ensured that everyone has access to effective and quality health services. We have improved physical infrastructure and invested in essential services for timely and appropriate healthcare. There is a single resolve behind improvement in physical facilities – to provide better protection to the people during health emergencies and to ensure healthy living and well-being for people of all age groups,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that, under the guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the J&K Administration has made significant strides in strengthening the healthcare sector. He said, the entire health system has been sensitized in the last five years to ensure essential healthcare and develop infrastructure for noncommunicable diseases like mental health and psychosocial support in every district. We have been diligently working on key areas such as ensuring availability of Doctors, access to affordable Drugs, enhancing Diagnostics, and improving Delivery Mechanisms, the Lieutenant Governor added.
“I assure you all that promoting safe, healthy and better life will always be the priority of the administration,” the Lieutenant Governor said. On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor urged the people to identify, isolate and report divisive elements threatening peace and harmony. “Our neighbouring country is making desperate attempts to disrupt peace. Security Forces, J&K Police and Administration are working together to combat terrorism and its supporters. We will not rest until we completely wipe out terrorism and its entire ecosystem from Jammu Kashmir.
‘Don’t Touch the Innocent and Don’t Spare the Culprit’ is our policy. Every section of the society must join this fight against terrorism,” the Lieutenant Governor said. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister, J&K is witnessing unprecedented development across the sectors, with more than Rs 1.50 lakh crore worth highways and tunnel projects being executed in the UT of J&K.
He further emphasised on facilitating private investment to tap the immense tourism potential of Bhaderwah and improve tourism facilities in the region. The Lieutenant Governor visited the stalls put up by the line departments and also interacted with the beneficiaries. He directed the District Administration to create a database of Divyangjan to ensure eligible individuals can benefit from upcoming Mega Camps to be organized in both Jammu division and Kashmir division.
The Lieutenant Governor also assured that appropriate action will be taken for redressal of the issues projected by the DDC Chairman Doda. The week-long Mega Surgical Camp is the fourth camp of Rotary International in Jammu Kashmir, with over 2000 patients to get directly benefitted from this Camp. Earlier, similar camps were organized in North Kashmir, South Kashmir and Rajouri-Poonch.
For the camp at Doda and Kishtwar, this year, an extensive process for preliminary medical examinations to identify individuals in need of surgical intervention was made by health workers at the block level. Special teams of doctors were also constituted for screening. Based on such screening, as on date, over 750 patients have already been shortlisted for undergoing different superspeciality and general surgeries in the domains of ENT, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology using advanced laparoscopic technologies.
Apart from surgeries, OPD facilities, Pre- and Post-operative Care and Monitoring will also be provided by special teams of Rotary and District Administrations. Free consultations, diagnostics, distribution of medicines and entire boarding/lodging of the patients as well as their attendants will also be provided free of cost by the District teams.
