KISHTWAR: District Development Commissioner Kishtwar Rajesh Kumar Shavan convened a meeting to take a comprehensive review of plan proposals under different Rural Development Department (RDD) schemes for the fiscal year 2025–26.
The DDC took a detailed review of Plans proposed under MGNREGA, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), SOS works, Area Development Plan, PRI works, and CD Panchayat initiatives. He highlighted the necessity of involving DDC members and securing approvals from Gram Panchayats to ensure community participation in the planning process. He instructed all Block Development Officers (BDOs) to finalize and present their respective plans by Tuesday, ensuring alignment with the priorities set by the District Development Council.
For the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the DDC set a target to complete 949 houses by July 2025. BDOs were tasked with motivating the 524 existing beneficiaries to expedite the completion of their homes. Additionally, he underscored the need for a timely and accurate completion of the Awas Plus survey to identify eligible beneficiaries effectively.
The construction of Panchayat Ghars was identified as a top priority. A review of land identified for these structures across various Panchayats was conducted, with directives issued to Tehsildars and BDOs to collaborate in resolving any encumbrances.
The DDC reiterated the critical role of District Development Councilors in monitoring and ensuring judicious expenditure of dedicated funds. He stressed the importance of creating tangible assets in each Panchayat to foster sustainable development.
The meeting witnessed the participation of key officials, including Assistant Commissioner Development, AD Planning, all BDOs, Panchayat Secretaries, Technical Assistants, MIS Operators, and GRSs, among others.
The DDC called for a concerted effort from all stakeholders to uphold the principles of transparency, efficiency, and community involvement in executing RDD schemes, aiming to enhance the socio-economic fabric of Kishtwar district.
JAMMU: The Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) Jammu today celebrated World Milk Day 2025, underscoring the vital role of the Dairy Sector in supporting nutritional needs, economic development and sustainable livelihood. A simple but impressive event organised at AHD Office premises, witnessed a significant turnout of dairy farmers, industry stakeholders, and enthusiastic citizens.
Director Animal Husbandry Department J&K Dr. Parvinder Singh Sudan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, Dr. Sudan highlighted the theme for World Milk Day 2025, “Let's Celebrate the Power of Dairy,” emphasizing milk's multifaceted contribution to health, agricultural prosperity, and the overall well-being of the region.
"Milk is not just a food item; it is a powerhouse of nutrition, a backbone for countless farming families, and a crucial driver of our rural economy," stated Dr. Sudan. Elaborating advanced sector specific interventions introduced in J&K, he said the Dairy sector growth is expected to show a potential rise with the inclusion of Sex Sorted semen to be harvested from High Pedigree bulls which the Department is procuring from the US this financial year.
The celebration included a range of activities aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of milk and the advancements in the dairy sector. Informative sessions were conducted by veterinary experts on modern dairy farming techniques, animal health, and the importance of hygienic milk production.
A highlight of the event was the felicitation of progressive dairy farmers from across the Jammu region. These farmers were recognized for their exemplary contribution to dairy development, their adoption of innovative practices, and their role in boosting milk production and quality in the Union Territory. Their dedication serves as an inspiration for others to embrace dairy farming as a viable and profitable venture.
World Milk Day, an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, is celebrated on June 1 every year to promote the importance of milk as a global food, highlighting its nutritional benefits, and supporting the dairy sector.
Jammu and Kashmir has seen a rise of Milk per capita availability from 56 gm in 2000 to 600 gm in 2024 surpassing the national average and ICMR recommendations. J&K has seen a boom in the dairy sector & under HADP/other dairy related schemes it is expected to grow @7.5 % Per Annum.

RAMBAN: Chairperson District Development Council (DDC) Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan and MLA Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen today undertook an extensive 2-day public outreach tour of Sub Division Gool. On the first day, the DDC Chairperson and MLA visited Panchayat Dachan to assess the pace of developmental activities and address public grievances in the area.
The outreach programme witnessed the participation of DDC Councillor Gool Saki Mohammad and DDC Councillor Fayaz Ahmed, along with ex- Panchayat members, the officers from line departments and a large gathering of local residents, who enthusiastically projected their issues and demands. During the interaction, the locals raised several demands, seeking establishment of a J&K Bank branch in the area, posting of adequate staff and up-gradation of infrastructure in Schools at Dachan, Ind and Dehda.
Other demands included proper upkeep of revenue records, creation of a separate Panchayat for Dachan and establishment of Grid station in the area. The people also sought timely completion and enhancement of Jal Shakti schemes, augmentation of power infrastructure, construction of new and maintenance of existing roads and overall strengthening of the education sector.
The Chairperson, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the District Development Council’s continuous efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure delivery of basic services in far-flung areas like Dachan. She assured the public that their genuine developmental demands would be taken up with the concerned authorities and pursued on priority. She emphasized the importance of grassroots participation in governance and reiterated her commitment to bringing administrative machinery closer to the people.
MLA Sajjad Shaheen underlined the UT Government’s focus on inclusive development, especially in remote and underserved areas. He stated that significant progress has been made in sectors like education, power, road infrastructure, and water supply in the region. He reaffirmed his dedication to bridging developmental gaps and said that efforts are underway to address staff shortage in schools and upgrade the institutions to benefit students and the youth of the region. He also highlighted his role in pushing for long-pending demands related to availability of banking facility and streamlining of revenue services.
Both leaders appealed to the officers of all departments to adopt a proactive approach in resolving public issues and ensure timely delivery of services. They also urged the community to take full advantage of government welfare schemes. The programme concluded with a renewed assurance from the DDC Chairperson and MLA Banihal for the all-round development of Sub-Division Gool.
JAMMU: Today, the Ld. Special Judge Anti-Corruption , Jammu, convicted all the five accused facing trial in case FIR No. 10/2005 P/S VOJ (now ACB) relating to purchase of sub-standard microscopes on exorbitant rates by the School Education Deptt . , Jammu , during the year c 2004-05 z Investigation conducted in the matter revealed that the accused public servants , pursuant to a well-knit criminal conspiracy hatched by them with the accused supplier(beneficiary) , abused their official positions and approved a dissection microscope instead of the one required for examining the properties of minerals in gross violation of the NIT and thereafter, made bulk purchases of the said microscope causing substantial wrongful loss to the State exchequer and wrongful gain to themselves and the beneficiary .
The accused were sent up for trial for the offences made out against them during the course of investigation by way of laying charge sheet against them before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption , Jammu . On the basis of evidence led by the prosecution , the trial Court found all the accused , namely ,Jatinder Kumar , the then AO Directorate of School Education, Jammu, Rameshwar Kumar Sharma, the then Lecturer Geology , SRML Hr. Secondary School, Jammu(Expert) , Balwan Singh, then then Lecturer Geology, SIE, Jammu (Expert), Balbir Singh Jamwal, then then CEO , Udhampur , and Jaswinder Singh Manocha, Prop. M/s Cosmopolitan Traders, Jammu, guilty of the commission of offences punishable under section 5(1)(d) r/w section 5(2), J&K Prevention of Corruption Act , Svt ., 2006 and 120-B,RPC .
While convicting the accused for offences under section 5(1)(d) r/w sec . 5(2) , J& K P C Act , 2006 , the trial Court sentenced them for simple imprisonment of 02 years whereas for the commission of offence punishable under section 120-B , RPC they have been sentenced for simple imprisonment of 01 year , both the sentences to run currently . Besides , fine of Rs. 25,000/- was also imposed on each accused public servant whereas accused Jaswinder Singh Manocha , Prop. M/s Cosmopolitan Traders , Jammu , has been imposed fine of Rs. 100000 . In default of payment of fine , they shall further undergo simple imprisonment of 03 months.
