SRINAGAR: The three member Cabinet Sub-Committee on reservation rules under the chairmanship of Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, interacted with several public delegations and students regarding their grievances on reservation rules at SKICC here today.
Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmad Rana and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma (members of Sub-committee); Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Verma; Commissioner Secretary, GAD, M Raju; Secretary Law, Achal Sethi and senior officers from General Administration department and Social Welfare department also participated in the meeting.
During the interaction, the delegations presented their view point before the Sub-committee regarding existing reservation policy. While examining their grievances and issues regarding reservation rules, the Sub-Committee assured them that the government will take viewpoint of every section of society to arrive at an amicable solution where everyone’s interest is safeguarded.
The Sub-Committee further said that they are open for discussions with everyone in order to reach cordial solution. The Sub-Committee added that they will present its report within the given time frame of six months to the council of ministers headed by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
Pertinently, the Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted by the Omar Abdullah led government after assuming power to look into grievances projected by several section of aspirants against the existing reservation rules.
ANANTNAG: In a major success in the fight against the drug menace, Police in Anantnag carried out a series of well-coordinated raids during the intervening night, resulting in the recovery of a large quantity of narcotic substances from three separate residential houses in village Wantrag, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Mattan.
Acting on specific information, Police Station Mattan raided the residence of Jehangir Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Abdulla Khan resident of Wantrag and recovered 23 Kgs 330 grams of Charas Powder. In another operation, a raid was conducted at the residence of Reyaz Ahmad Khan son of Sher Afzal Khan resident of Wantrag. Officers recovered 3 Kgs 670 grams of Charas Powder from the said residential house. In the third instance, Police raided the house of Nowshad Pathan son of Kastiya Pathan resident of Wantrag, leading to the recovery of 3 Kgs 900 grams of Charas Powder. These operations lead to the recovery of over-all 30 Kgs 900 grams of Charas Powder. Additionally, the accused persons have also been arrested.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigations are underway, and more arrests and recoveries are expected. These successful operations are part of J&K Police’s continued drive to eliminate drug trafficking and substance abuse from the district. J&K Police reiterates its commitment to making the region drug-free and appeals to the public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling or other illegal activities.
JAMMU: As part of its annual calendar of events, Tourism Department organised Mela Bahu Fort on the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navratri. The historic Bahu Fort, home to the revered Bawe Wali Mata Temple, came alive with vibrant hues of devotion and cultural splendour, drawing an overwhelming gathering of devotees, artists, and visitors to celebrate the region’s rich spiritual and cultural legacy.
Minister for FCS & CA, Transport Youth, Services and Sports, Satish Sharma was the Chief Guest on the event where as MLA Bahu, Vikram Randhawa, Director Tourism, Jammu Vikas Gupta, Joint Director Tourism, Aijaz Qaiser and others officers of concerned departments, Rajeev Charak, President of the Bahu Fort Development Committee and other stakeholders were also present during the event.
While speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma extended heartfelt Navratri greetings to the people of Jammu & Kashmir and prayed for lasting peace, harmony, and prosperity in the region. He lauded the dedicated efforts of the Tourism Department in creating meaningful platforms that not only showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage but also elevate pilgrimage tourism as a cornerstone of the J&K's tourism profile.
The Minister asserted that promoting J&K tourism especially religious, adventure, winter sports and water ways is one of government's top agenda.
He further emphasized the importance of preserving sacred sites like Bawe Wali Mata Temple, which continue to serve as enduring symbols of collective faith and shared heritage.
The Minister commended the department for its steadfast commitment to celebrating local traditions. He described the Bawe Wali Mata Temple and Bahu Fort as timeless icons of the Dogra community’s spiritual devotion and cultural pride, noting that such festivals deepen the intrinsic bond between the people and their heritage.
The event featured soulful devotional performances by acclaimed artists from the Information Department and Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL). Their music and dance, steeped in bhakti rasa, added spiritual richness to the celebrations.
A total of 21 students from Government Higher Secondary School, Bahu enthusiastically participated across junior and senior categories, presenting performances that reflected the spirit of Navratri.They winners were present mementoes and certificates of appreciation.
SRINAGAR: The CEO, SSCL Dr. Owais Ahmed today chaired a detailed review of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), with particular focus on the Karanagar stretch—a busy road feeding prominent Hospitals; SMHS and SKIMS Soura.
The meeting was attended by the SSP Srinagar (Traffic), Addl.CEO SSCL, JC Planning, Secretary SMC, FA/CAO SMC, CE SSCL and other senior officials from SMC and SSCL.
The review meeting highlighted key strategies to deliver free vehicular and pedestrian movement through deployment of smart technology and real-time traffic solutions.
CEO SSCL said, “Our goal is to achieve free-flow of vehicular as well as pedestrian movement through intelligent, responsive systems that not only manage traffic efficiently but also enhance the overall commuting experience for citizens.”
As part of the ongoing efforts under the Smart City project, the ITMS is designed to bring a data-driven approach to traffic regulation. The CEO said several critical initiatives aimed at improving mobility across Srinagar, including; Real-Time Monitoring: High-definition CCTV cameras and traffic sensors have been installed at major intersections to monitor live traffic flow and detect violations.
Officials noted that Karanagar, due to its strategic location and high traffic volume, remains a top priority of ITMS optimization.
The CEO assured that these technological upgrades, coupled with better enforcement and public cooperation, will significantly improve Srinagar’s traffic scenario in the coming months. “Our focus is to create a smarter, safer, and more commuter-friendly Srinagar,” he said.
The ITMS project is part of a larger vision under the Smart City mission to make urban infrastructure in Srinagar responsive, efficient, and sustainable.
SRINAGAR: The Department of Health & Medical Education, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), conducted the national review meeting for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2025 here today. The key stakeholders, senior officials and experts attended the meeting to review the past experiences, discuss preparedness and enhance the coordination framework for medical services during the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra..
Secretary, Health & Medical Education (H&ME), Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, who chaired the crucial meeting, highlighted the government’s commitment towards ensuring a robust healthcare system for the pilgrims.
He emphasized the need for streamlining the process of issuance of Compulsory Health Certificates to the pilgrims. He asked for putting in efforts to ensure that the certificates are issued only after thoroughly assessing the health status of the intending pilgrim. This measure will help in curbing the morbidity and mortality rate, save numerous lives, he added.
Secretary Health also appreciated the states for deputing specialists and medical officers for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra duties over the years. He expressed hope that the states and the Government of India institutions depute the staff as per the requisitioned numbers for the forthcoming Yatra 2025. He focused on the requirement of Cardiologists, Respiratory Physicians and Anesthetists.
The meeting was followed by release of the Yatra Booklet and distribution of certificates of appreciation among the States and MoHFW. The States/MoHFW Institutions that participated included Delhi, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and West Bengal.
Prominent national level institutions who participated in the meeting included AIIMS of New Delhi, Raipur, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar Patna, Bhopal and Rishikesh, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry as well as Banaras Hindu University Medical College, RML Hospital, LHMC, Safdergung Hospitals, New Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University Medical College.
Additionally, SKIMS Medical College and Government Medical Colleges of Jammu, Srinagar, Anantnag participated in the meet. The meeting featured a comprehensive overview of Emergency Medical Response (EMR) activities presented by Dr. L Swasticharan, Additional DDG & Director EMR, MoHFW. He outlined the emergency response strategies and best practices. Dr. Sujata Chaudhary, Additional Director General Health Services, MoHFW, further elaborated on national level coordination efforts to enhance the medical response mechanisms for SANJY.
