UDHAMPUR: As part of the emergency preparedness and safety initiative, District Administration Udhampur, in collaboration with Civil Defence Udhampur, today conducted a series of Civil Defence Mock Drill exercises under the aegis of “Operation Shield.”
The Exercises, conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, were held at 3 different locations viz. Village Kashirah near Airforce Station, Gaddi Sippi Hostel and Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel. The officials from stakeholder departments such as Revenue, Police, Medical, Education, NDRF, SDRF, Telecom, Traffic, Fire and Emergency Services and others actively took part in the exercise in presence of a large number of local public.
The mock exercise was organized with the objective of educating and sensitizing the local populace about effective emergency response protocols during blackout situations or any unforeseen crisis events. The mock drill simulated a real-time emergency scenario to demonstrate coordinated response by civil defence volunteers, local residents and emergency services.
It included evacuation procedures, first-aid demonstration, fire safety measures and basic rescue operations, familiarizing citizens with immediate action plans amid crisis. The local community actively participated, following instructions with discipline and engaging with officials to deepen their understanding of civil defence and resilience strategies.
The District Administration praised the seamless inter-agency collaboration and the community’s enthusiastic involvement, emphasizing that such drills are vital for building a robust response framework in high-priority zones. Pertinently, the Udhampur Administration has also scheduled a Blackout Drill in the entire district from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM today, reinforcing community readiness for emergencies in strategic regions.
DODA: To strengthen disaster response capabilities and assess inter-departmental coordination, the District Administration Doda conducted extensive mock drills at different strategic locations in Doda town. The initiative aimed to evaluate the preparedness of emergency services and raise public awareness about emergency protocols. The drills simulated real-life emergency scenarios, including evacuation procedures, deployment of rescue teams, provision of medical assistance and crowd management.
Active participation was witnessed from the police department, fire and emergency services, health department, civil defense and the municipal committee. Public announcements were made to guide citizens during the drills and emphasize the importance of remaining calm and cooperative during emergencies.
As part of the mock scenario, an injured patient was successfully rescued from the simulated disaster site near Suigawri and was shifted in a well-coordinated manner to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for further treatment. Additionally, critically injured patients were airlifted to Jammu Medical College for advanced medical care, demonstrating the district's preparedness for handling emergency medical evacuations effectively.
In a follow-up to the mock drills, a complete blackout was observed across Doda town from 8 PM, simulating a power outage scenario during a potential emergency. This helped assess the response of emergency services in low-visibility and restricted communication conditions. The blackout also served to familiarize the public with how to respond calmly and safely during real-life power disruptions during disasters.
Deputy Commissioner Doda commended all participating departments for their proactive involvement and emphasized the need for ongoing coordination and community participation in such preparedness activities. He assured that such drills, including simulated blackouts will be conducted regularly across the district to ensure a robust and responsive disaster management system is in place.
SRINAGAR: In order to finalize the various Rent Assessment Cases of the buildings under utilisation of different Government Departments, meeting of the District Rent Assessment Committee(DRAC) was held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat here at Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mir Imtiyaz-Ul Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Aadil Fareed, Superintending Engineer R&B South, Tehteel Yousuf, Superintending Engineer R&B North Shabir Ahmad, the meeting was attended by members of all the concerned Departments whose Offices are functioning from private buildings in the District.
During the DRAC meeting, as many as 20 rent cases of buildings presently used by Government Departments including School Education, Handicraft & Handloom, ICDS, Health, Skill Development, Sheep Husbandry, Libraries & Research and J&K Buildings & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board were put forth before the Committee for fixing of monthly rent.
The Committee deliberated over all the rent assessment cases in detail and each case was examined thoroughly. At the outset, out of the total 20 cases, 13 cases were approved while 7 other cases were scheduled to be put up again due to some technical deficiencies. On the occasion, the Chairman DRAC impressed on Officers to ensure that vacant Government buildings are given priority for functioning of various Offices. He also stressed on clearing all pending rent assessment cases.
SRINAGAR: As a part of ‘Operation Shield’ a Civil Defence Mock Drill was conducted at Amar Niwas Complex here on Saturday to assess on ground preparedness regarding Civil Defence, Emergency Response in Srinagar District.
The exercise took place in presence of the Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat who is also the Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority in bolstering readiness and addressing critical gaps to handle emergencies and ensure the safety of critical installations and residents in Srinagar District.
Personnel from multiple Civil Defence services participated in the Mock Drill as part of the nationwide exercise to test and strengthen the preparedness.
The ‘Operation Shield’ has been designed to simulate hostile situations, including air raid sirens, blackout protocols, and various emergency response actions, to evaluate the preparedness of civil authorities, emergency services, and local populations.
The Drill was also aimed to replicate real-time scenarios that may arise from potential external threats, any troublesome circumstances besides measures being taken to further strengthen the Civil Defence mechanisms, ensuring security of critical infrastructure and citizen safety.
The Drill is expected to significantly improve inter-agency coordination, public awareness, and the ability of the administration to respond swiftly and efficiently in the event of any hostile act or natural disasters and test the effectiveness of safety protocols.
RAJOURI: A vibrant and well-attended Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) was organised today at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) to connect job-seeking youth with the industrial establishments and promoting awareness about apprenticeship programs under the Government of India’s Skill India Mission. The event was graced by Javaid Iqbal Choudhary, MLA Budhal as the Chief Guest. He lauded the efforts of ITI Rajouri and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for organizing such a valuable initiative.
The MLA stressed the importance of skill enhancement in shaping the future of the youth and urged industries to come forward in providing apprenticeship opportunities to local students. He encouraged students to become job creators rather than job seekers by utilizing the training and platforms provided by ITIs and the government.
Among others present at the event were Assistant Labour Commissioner Pradyot Gupta; President, Industrial Association Rajouri Haji Mohammad Shafi; Managing Director Concrete Design Ashish Langer; Tourist Officer Mumtaz Ahmed; PMNAM Coordinator Ankush Sharma and others.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner highlighted various labour welfare schemes and services available for workers. He informed that children of registered labourers are entitled to free education assistance under labour welfare schemes, a key provision aimed at uplifting the families of labour-class.
President local Industrial Association Haji Mohammad Shafi expressed his association’s willingness to support and absorb skilled manpower from local ITIs, promoting local employment. The Managing Director Concrete Design spoke about the industry’s requirements for skilled workers and how apprenticeships help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience.
The Tourist Officer emphasized the growing opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors and encouraged students to explore these sectors through vocational training and apprenticeships.
The event was coordinated by Ankush Sharma, PMNAM Coordinator, who delivered a detailed presentation on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and its benefits for both employers and apprentices. He explained the registration process, incentives for industries and how students can use this platform to gain valuable industry exposure while continuing their education.
Earlier, the organizer and host of the event the ITI Principal Ujwal Mahajan welcomed the guests and participants, highlighting ITI Rajouri’s commitment to quality skill training and industry partnerships. A number of stalls were set up by local industries and training partners to facilitate direct interaction between students and potential employers.
On-the-spot registrations for apprenticeship programs were also conducted and many students evinced keen interest in joining the sectors such as manufacturing, interior designing, tourism and other services.
The event concluded with networking sessions and one-on-one counseling of students, offering them a better understanding of career prospects through apprenticeships. The PMNAM Mela at ITI Rajouri proved to be a significant step towards youth empowerment, industrial collaboration and socio-economic up-liftment through skill development.
